Although it's dragged on forever, the leadership race will soon be over and Keir will press the alt-ctrl-del on all of this nonsense. I cannot wait!

The big problem here is we need an effective opposition to hold the govt to account

Absolutely, Keith. No need to obsess about Brexit any more - our job is to hold the Government to account; it's their's to own now. The lack of any serious opposition to such a bonkers government should matter to everyone.

Watching Bungling Boris last night worries me that this guy is running the country.
But you look across and hope the opposition will challenge decisions but they all appear to be looking inwards

Seriously, I'll bet Labour are really thinking 'Thank God we didn't win'.

If the PLP are not I know many of their supporters and members who are - whilst I think BJ & DC are bad at least they are appearing to make decisions; imagine the dither from dear old JC and the infighting amongst the cabinet...

According to the original plan, the counting of the votes should be completed tomorrow and the name of the new leader should be announced on Saturday. This seems to have slipped under the radar lately.

You may well be right Pablo, or perhaps nobody really gives a monkey’s? ( no doubt they’ll still prove to be unelectable whoever wins )

Labour redefined 'opposition' when there was more noise from the Tory benches about the 'emergency' legislation than from its own. And when George Osborne comes out for Keir Starmer, and Tom Watson thanks Matt Hancock for congratulating Tom Watson about his new job, you know Labour's a flayed body, and de Pfeffel just walked off with the new emperor's skin.

His [Sir Keith's] two rivals paid tribute to him, Mrs Long-Bailey saying he would be make "brilliant prime minister" and she "would do all she could to make that a reality".

I doubt he even knows what 'it' is, let alone where 'it' is. Unless we're talking about voluntaries polluciones, in which case what he does with his right hand is none of our business.

No way will Starmer delete this. It's his legacy, too, as his wing of the party joined in with the media and used it to batter Corbyn during the last election. Corbyn, rather than fight it, caved in. When Labour then virtually handed control of policy to the BoD and the JLM the game was up. Now, any time an MP or party official so much as whispers anything remotely connected to 'Israel' or 'Palestine', the BoD and JLM will issue statements of outraged condemnation, John Mann will wheel into any radio and tv news programme that'll have him, and Laura Kuenssberg and her ilk will issue 'analyses' of 'anti-semitism in the Labour Party'. When Starmer reprimands, demotes, expels or cancels yet another MP or member, it'll be 'clap for Keir' from these and all the old Labour suits. This athlete's far too old and, with that hamstring, will continue to limp.

I actually read the Maxine Peake article in ' The Independent ' before it became the centre of a media storm and the offending piece was removed. I was interested in her new fim as she is undoubtedly a good actor and also thought I would be interested in her take on the new Starmer leadership of the Labour Party.
When I read the section where she claimed that the Israeli secret service were in some way responsible for the death of George Floyd (!) I thought immediately - I hope this is true besause if it isn't its anti- Semitic crap. It happens that it was fake news, Peake apologised for lying, Amnesty denied her statements and RLB should have read it properly before tweeting it. Starmer was correct and knowing the stink it would cause in some circles quite courageous. Totally unlike the reprehensible situation with Cummings and Jenrick which risks comparison with the ethical governance of a banana republic?

It is a bit more complicated than that. I totally agree that Cummings and Jenrick should go. It suits BJ to keep them.
It also suits KS to have an excuse to get rid of the Momentum linked Long Bailey.
