Must be worried Conservative Councillors and MP out canvassing yesterday .They cannot have many supporters helping.?? I Don’t recall MP out canvassing with me.
I had a good team of local supporters.I think they will be in for a shock .It maybe a hung Council. They cannot expect one to vote for them when they donot visit the Community .You need a high profilel not just at election time .The whole of Whitfield covered in houses. The green fields all gone .The sea front Ugly seats and statues everywhere. The shops are fast disappearing .Here in River The Bus Service is terrible.
A trip to the Doctors Surgery in Lydden costs a lot by taxi .No buses now .

Disappointed to note that both Lab and Con leaflets printed outside district. One would think printing locally is the least they could do?
Over breakfast with Con Country Councillor he agreed that basically Lab taking over council would make little difference apart from Council Tax going up to waste on various right-on causes.
Expect the latter day equivalent of Lewisham becoming a Nuclear Free Zone - apart from electricity obviously!
Dover to follow Deal Town Council signing up to pay money towards becoming offshoot of Cities of Sanctuary etc and celebrating Eid Month (used to be a day) in Pencester Gardens?
In passing was amused to see Brecon Beacons is no longer ok due to hints of 'global warming'.
I note that the good burghers of Bristol, in an effort to expunge the name of local philanthropist Edward Colston from the city, have renamed the Colston Halls the Bristol Beacon.....

Realistically I suspect that DDC being Labour controlled will see little difference to policy or the level of council tax given that the national policies Starmer is espousing are faintly watered down Tory policies.
I do agree that if the Town Council goes red we will see their precept rocket as parish councils are not rate capped & they will want to do pointless virtue signalling nonsense, rather than focussing on the stuff that makes a difference like assisting with funding for the repaving of Cannon & Biggin Streets for example

Sue,
Like you i recall being in effingham cres. And came across Collor, who at that time(before falling out of favour) with thirty upwards of canvassers .
In those days every ward was canvassed, now it appears it's really hit and miss tactics, relying on a leaflet to get elected.
Parties should use local business .
I find it strange that in an election where control may change hands, that the two major parties in some areas have not even been seen!.
Ross
On the town council , it can't go red, i t s already run by labour.
But because of its lack of candidates it can't reach the required 9 to hold on to control.
Of course , should be be elected that would mean an indy/Tory coalition which was a complete disaster the last time round, allowing labour to regain control three years into the election.
Of course we also know if one individual is elected and the pact between Tories\Indies takes place we could again have the world wide negative publicity of a mayor's being caught up , in what some described as making the laughing stock of local councils.
Even family members in Singapore were asking me if the story of the Dover Mayor at the time was correct on white powder lol .
Of course both on District and Town council's this is the time where there could be a few surprizes.
In some areas quite a number of stated Indies are standing.
Of course some will recall Derek garrity who is standing as an indie against labour, in a seat that Labour finds difficult to hold onto.
I think this time round it seems he has double standards as he was critical of me (even though intact left lab some ten years earlier)for standing against labour, even though for good reason.
Certainly locals are fuming over him standing as he could let the Tory in, many stating they feel he thinks he's more important than he really is.
I will be at the count and hope to see at least a few changes .
I think your right Sue, the conservatives are so disliked at t he moment , and Labour can pick up on some of that , but with Starmers luke warm conservative agenda could see people protest voting.
I t s going to be interesting.

Where are the Greens and LibDems locally, very conspicuous by their absence this time round although at least there is an Independent standing for both councils, otherwise the same old names.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

If they do will it be too late to consider ground sourced heat pumps for the new swimming pool in Deal?

I was referring to ST Radigunds Ward which stupidly now includes where I live after the last boundary changes. The trouble is I have no faith in any of the candidates and see no sensible reason for any of them to withhold their address unless they have no or only a tenuous connection with the ward.

I’m fed up with all this canvassing on Social media. Can they not face the public anymore,Dozens Of postings today .Go round see the poverty some live in
Shops closing .Money being wasted on vanity projects.Fields Being concreted over .
Transport links useless.
Face to face canvassing is the way.i don’t recall so much canvassing by a sitting MP.
Surely there is business to attend in the House of Commons .

I agree about candidates needing to contact me other than via social media (so far I've had no callers and one (Tory) leaflet). As regards the sitting MP (although much the same applies to parliamentary candidates), yes there is HoC business and one can track her attendance eg. via

Sue
On the one hand you say not enough canvassing
Then you say MP canvassing to much?
My own thoughts are that in the early 80s canvassing door to door took place every election.
Slowly this moved away from a few phone calls to today's leaflet and hope for the best .
Face to face is the better way, although the use of social media also has a place to play.
The MP canvassing is no new thing , every party has done it, coming with it was supposed to visit some credibility .
Although I suspect many local Tories would prefer not to be associated wi t h her.

Keith put your glasses on.What I meant not enough canvassing by the Candidates. Its something when they are not known.?Its not good enough to bombard us with the same leaflet.my advice today is look at your councillors track record. Will they speak up for their Community. The Bus situation is one reason why my vote will go to someone else this time.

Our local councillors may have been conspicuous by their absence but they could have done a heck of a lot worse. PMSL - as my young friends like to say.
