At the moment the Labour party in Westminster do not really care about voters reaction as they have such a large majority. Tapp can keep his head down and toe the line.
They feel they can raise some wages to keep the unions quiet and blame everything that is wrong on the last Tory government. Wait a year and then see how the floating voter feels about them, especially if the Tories have managed to improve their awful public image.

The Tories are still infighting and still look, even after electing a new leader could likely move to the right , and the fighting continue

Here's the thing with the Tories, I don't actually think they lost the country on policy, rather, it was just poor behaviour and common decency. They're still a threat as Farage will soon lose interest and Reform will disappear.

I agree Neil, but I am not sure what will happen with publicity seeking and beer swilling Farage.
The Tories need to pull themselves together and not act like a bunch of privileged schoolkids but what else could we expect once they chose someone like Boris as their leader. Although I quite liked Sunak he was not a strong enough person to be leader and had bad advisers.

Wrote to Mr Tapp regarding the winter fuel allowance - not a chance of there being a rebel side to him! Received a reply defending Labour stance on winter fuel allowance- suspect it was a generic response composed by central office for all MPs to issue (simply tweak to add in your constituency name etc) . Didn’t answer my concerns about what was next……bus passes , prescriptions, eye tests. Raised concerns about targeting small nest eggs that have been achieved by prudence and hard work. No response.
See Ms Rayner now has her sights on council tax single person discounts- clearly pensioners are the government target for easy money. We have no union representation and absolutely no clout whatsoever . This government simply wants us to die as quickly as possible. I intend to try and attend one of Tapp’s constituency surgeries but I’m struggling to find out where they are held and how often. I want to challenge him face to face for answers.

Mike Tapp, a rebel? Not in a million years. As a newly elected MP he'll be completely loyal (rightly so).

Any newly elected MP will do as they are told until it suits their end goal to become part of the inner circle or act as s**t stirrers, also known in polite circles as rebels

Nobody will want to remove winter fuel allowance, but at least they're having an honest discussion about the need to make savings to cover the financial black hole that they inherited. What interests me is how they deal with the pushback - there will be rebels and they'll have to face them down. Being in government means being unpopular for the most part! But my overriding feeling is thank goodness we have adults in charge again.

Pity they're hardly ever in Parliament, another month off from next week.
If things are so bad I would have thought the budget would be brought forward.

Picking on the pensioners
I'm not so sure that was a good move .
Thing is with such a big majority it can slowly drop until he loses it altogether
Are you saying Neil this move on pensioners is ok
And he will survive it ?

FWIW 'our' Mike spent yesterday poring over plans for the Regent 'Cinema' in a coffee shop in deal yesterday.
Is the Labour run DDC about to add insult to injury by flogging the developers the car park and one of the last remaining public toilets in Deal at a 'knock down' price?

Oh yes, he'll certainly get away it. There will be lots of noise, he'll win the vote and all will move on. He'll offset it with a Capital gains tax rise.

Neil
Glad you have come out to see us lol
I have no doubt he will win vote ,
How many will defy him by voting against and abstain will be interesting .
Major unions and all other unions opposing it.
At what cost will it be to push pensioners into more misery???
Soz Neil I can't agree with your thoughts , I do realise you feel you have to jump behind your leader
There is a real danger that this will be a drip, drip of people not happy and could see his authority slowly fade away.
I'm sure pensioners won't forget come KCC elections and although general election a way off they won't forget and that could be difference between winning and losing many seats .
I think this is a tactical error
And certainly being seen as the wrong people to attack

Did you see Pippa Crerar on TV yesterday morning? Being Mirror and Guardian, she's worth listening to in relation to Labour matters. Her point was that Labour won not so much because of a love in for Labour, but rather, the country had become sick to the back teeth of Tory nonsense.
I think there's a lot in this, so from a policy perspective, Labour are starting from zero - and this move is not popular. Necessary, perhaps, but not popular. Therefore it will need to be offset - good news will have to follow. We'll get away with the fiscal black hole line for a while - but not that long. I'm sure that will be taken into consideration.

Although you keep those rise tinted glasses on, and this belief I have to admire .
That said though , this has to be seen as turning off many of his voters.
Even no explanation as to why your great leader chose to take food from the mouths of those that cannot afford this drastic cut , rather than those that wouldn't miss it .

I see that having been in Parliament for five minutes 'our' Mike is hoping to Chair the Justice Committee.

So Neil
Do you feel this winter fuel allowance that was poorly argued in the debate in the commons , and really didn't stack up when Labour is pushing for people to take up pension credit , but if they did the costs would far outweigh the amount taken in this drastic cut .
Maybe Neil your great leader could have looked at hitting those at least at the same time as hitting the pensioners to show they are targeting them.
But they have come out of this with really bad PR
And these things have that way of slowly bringing people down .
I think whatever the Govt does now , the damage has been done , and it's this that your leader should be thinking of .
I do smile when your leader wheels out the MPs to put the message out there like MP Gardener?
Who no matter what will argue it's all the Tories fault
Maybe Neil this is going to be more damaging than you think .
Easy targets , sadly
