OLYMPIC LIVE SITE OPPORTUNITY
Dover District Council is currently working with Kent County Council and the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games (LOCOG) to resolve issues that may lead to a planning application for an Olympic Live Site in Dover.
The Live Site project is run by LOCOG to establish permanent LED screens in high profile public spaces. LOCOG has approached Dover District Council with this opportunity to provide an important asset to the cultural attraction for Dover and a key community information tool. The proposed site is the Market Square. This comes as a range of partners continue to work together for a world class future for the district, including the Kent Campaign to welcome the Olympic torch into the UK through Dover.
A Live Site would represent a physical legacy from the Olympic Games and a major investment by London 2012. Dover is the first site that is not a city to be taken forward, and would be one of only 20 sites in the country at the moment. LOCOG is offering each host the complete screen system and backroom technology free of charge. The BBC provides content and editorial and operational management of each screen. DDC is working with a range of partners to look at covering revenue or running costs.
It is stressed that no final decisions have been taken on this matter, and any progress is subject to the submission and approval of an appropriate planning application.
