I really have to defend Vic here .I may not always agree with his tactics but I can tell you he is one of the hardest working chaps I know .He keeps his car ,house and garden spotless .He enthuses energy .I dont think he drinks and he is very good hearted .I havent always agreed with him ,but less of the knocking please .
My son, girlfriend and her brother were in Dover last evening .Do you know what his remarks to me were today "".Mum when is the council, (and rember im part of it )going to do something for the younger generation .When are they going to tidy up the empty properties and clean the streets ",
Not a good advert for our visitor .By the way he loved River .The daffs are glorious
Why we have to reach for Pie in the Sky I donot know .
Tomorrow once again I shall try to get investment for social housing .I need homes for our young people and a clean looking Dover .Sorry this screen will not do that .Howard the Carnival lasts for a few hours not 7.00am untill 11.00pm
I sometime wonder how many of you who post work ??Perhaps its rather rude but I question that .

Sue again a post that is rude and condescending - try re-reading what you type before you press send
However like guzzler I wish you every success in your quest for more social housing but like him I also believe we should be grateful for things that are offered.
Yes we do need more for younger people in the town particularly the under 18s who have are exceptionally poorly catered for.

Yes Sue it is rude to ask that. Are you questioning the right of the unemployed to post on Dover forum or do you feel their voice should not be heard or their questions answered. My God Susan you really need to take a long hard look at yourself and your motives for being a Councillor.Whom are you trying to promote ....the town or yourself?.
Unlike your goodself who receives a State pension ,fuel allowance ,free bus pass, free presciptions, free dental treatment and discount at the blue rinse club etc and gets paid by the Council, some of us have to earn a crust but those that don't or can't are still entitled to their opinions and allowed to post here.
If that's rude then sod it.... I've given up all hope for Dover.
Marek
I think therefore I am (not a Tory supporter)
Marek, thank you. Prejudice and patronising have no place in a diverse and vibrant society, and someone representing Dover needs to at least be able to understand the impact of the words used as well as, hopefully, uphold ethical standards of fairplay and inclusion. I have seen nothing in any of Sues posts that gives me confidence that that is the case. As I do not know her, her self-promoting posts are all I have to go on. Also something she should understand.

How dare you Marek .Im entitled to my pension .My husband worked hard so Im entitled to a small reward from the state .How many of you accept child allowance ??
I dont get free dental treatment cost me £ 700 last time and prior to that over £1000.
I did not take up my bus pass until i was 63 .I pay for my glasses ,today I shall spend over £100 on new ones .I do not get Council tax relief or Housing benefit
I had to help my children through university
Perhaps you should read your postings .
Bern I know how some people struggle that is why I fight against anything which I see will bning no reward to the town .There other parts of the district who people forget about .I was reading about Preston this weekend .A small parish right on the edge of the district .When we ask for money through the council tax it effects everyone .That includes our Northern parishes right round to Capel ..

Ross in the papers this week if the actually put my letter in,is a question asking the Council why DDC has not given free swimming for the under 16's while they have for the over 60's yet our neighbouring Councils Shepway and Thanet have. Now I am not against free swimming for the over 60's on health grounds, but when we see the obesity levels in Young People.Th e Goverment has given £MILLIONS for these schemes and then money to do up the Sports Centres if we take part.Think of the health beneifits of this.
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!
.Howard the Carnival lasts for a few hours not 7.00am untill 11.00pm
A FEW HOURS!!! Perhaps you should tell the organisers who spend weeks and months on putting it together
The screen will be a superb advertising tool. They have huge screens in London on New years day to show the parade there, and even though we are taking part, we always want to look up at the big screens to see the different angles on the parade you miss when actually in it. Dover puts on some great events, and the screen will help advertise and show them.

I don't have a paid job Sue. I am a full time mother, however the amount of UNPAID work I do as a volunteer speaks for itself. To suggest people don't work because they have posted something you haven't liked reading is incredibly patronising. I do wish you would check yourself before posting such a remark. I don't think you mean to be so offensive, but it comes across that way sue, and it isn't nice AT ALL, please think about your post before you write it.

sue, people out of work use the internet to find work on web based job sites etc.if they are lucky to own there own pc all well and good, those who dont own pcs have to rely on the libary commputers in which they are limited ti 1 hour per session,if when looking for work on these sites may take 30 minutes, this leaves 30 minutes left to look at forums like this one.

Brian,
Surely it's more important to look for work than look at forums. My son is presently unemployed and is trying very hard to get a job. He won't claim any state benefits because he says he can survive for a while on his savings. I admire him for his principles and hope he gets work soon. He has a university degree but is willing to do any job just to get back into employment.
Guzzler - post 321 - I think that's a terrific idea - I hope it happens
There's always a little truth behind every "Just kidding", a little emotion behind every "I don't care" and a little pain behind every "I'm ok".
Jacqui - it isn't one or the other, is it: either seek work or look at forums. I am sure most people can do both!!!!! I am behind your son 100% though - when we had a lean patch a few years ago we felt the same, although we had both paid substantial amounts into the system!!! But people sometimes have a weird view of the unemployed - my parents were once very affronted because someone without a job in their road went bowling.....what was he supposed to do, stay in with the curtains closed until he got a job??!! A positive attitude and cheerful countenance can be great assets when job hunting and you don't get those shut in and bored!!

Good Lord it is no wonder it takes for ever to achieve things in local government if the silly argument(s) about people being rude/condescending/spinning the party line/meaning what they typed etc. are anything to go by.
This thread and a number of others on this site are a glowing advert for all that is wrong with local and party politics in this country - no wonder election turnout is so low.
For all that I find Sue's post too often to be verging on the obnoxious she at least seems to work hard on behalf of the good people of the district (as she keeps reminding us). I also recognise that there are other local politicians who do likewise (John G, Roger, Chris to name a few) as well as volunteers like Mandy.
However the petty point scoring along party lines does none of us any favours.
(Oh John - I absolutely agree with you about the swimming)

Ross, I agree - despite her atrocious PR take, I realise Sue works hard. But it is quality and not quantity we need. And party politics, while being better than dictatorships, leave us open to the petty abuses and potential for obscuring the real issues, as we see so often on these threads - in Party Politics every day presents a "good day to bury bad news". But this is a good opportunity to say a genune Thank You to those who work hard for Dover -you know who you are!!!!
