Yup. Doing well in spite of our local council/councillors (one of whom objected to an alcohol licence for the new cafe owners!)

and here's a picture of the great and the good (Sue Chandler) officially opening the new cafe - though personally I would not allow councillors anywhere near sharp scissors.

You have upset poor Jasin Bob, rather ironic that he attacks the young couple trying to make a go of the franchise after the mess he left it in then complains about criticism aimed at him.
I remember him getting first go at the catering in the new Seasports Centre then despite that being given the contract for Deal pier, trip advisor reviews sum his efforts up. Has he still got that chippy in Telegraph Road?

Oh yes!

Let's hope that if he does seek legal advice THIS time his solicitors will have enough sense to ask for payment in advance!

Let's hope he doesn't! I'd happily pay to see what the judge has to say.

Centre page spread in the Mercury today.I cannot recall how much the refurbishment cost.I know when the pier had major restructure years ago which I voted against the cost, I wonder what was so fabulous this time round.
it does concern me that Dover is lagging behind..
I see all the publicity re the old co op building in Stembrook.A bit like giving Dover a Woolies and Deal a Harrods.

If Harrods opened a store in the district then I suspect they would choose Deal but Dover shouldn't be lagging behind considering the enormous investment it is getting compared to the rest of the district. St James £50m, new leisure centre £26m, Western Docks £250m, Snargate Street upgrade £10m, rapid bus system £15m.

Any investment now is simply making up for years of neglect. the new leisure centre is up Whitfield not in Dover and replaces the old one which was in an awful state.
BTW I thought Western Docks was down to the Harbour Board not DDC.

I presumed he/she was referring to investment in general, Western dock project had a lot of money from the EU amongst others. the leisure centre got some funding from Sport England or some similar organisation and Legal and General own St James.

Yes the response was to the statement from Sue that Dover is lagging behind. For a small town Dover has had more investment than anywhere else that I can think of in the UK.
If the perception is that it is still lagging behind then there comes a point when you have to stop throwing good money after bad and just accept Dover is what it is and try and joy it.

I really do not think there is a lot wrong with Dover except for a general feeling of neglect much of which is down to the various councils and absentee landlords.
It is scruffy looking with some of its untidy looking properties and streets with patched roads and uneven pavements. Many of the once well cared for nice looking buildings are now run down multi occupied homes where the tenants have no interest in what they look like on the outside.
