The route for Bus Rapid Transport system starts at Whitfield housing development crosses the road at land next to Tesco goes through Business Park to Guston & will pick Connaught Barracks housing development then to Town Centre [hopefully through St James] & finish up at Dover Priory.
Apart from Government funding contribution , housing & business units on White Cliffs Business Park, Connaught & Whitfield housing are expected to contribute funding via Planning Permissions.
This funding announcement is a massive step forward & underpins the recent Master Plan for the Town Centre proposals.

Oh my days! You DDC folk really don't have a clue. The damage you have inflicted on this town will have repercussions for decades.

This new bus service will make up for the cuts that Stagecoach made on services to/from Whitfield. The next question is who would operate it?

So let's be blunt Paul, the ' Bus Rapid Transport System' is in fact what we used to call a 'road' with the most expensive bit being a bridge across the A2, which will be used only by cyclists, pedestrians and presumably the occasional rapidly transiting bus, connecting the fast train to London with the thousands of unwanted breeding boxes for displaced Londoners, which DDC have given planning permission for on prime agricultural land, hoping that the 'Catnip for Councils' i.e. New Homes Bonus, will help us balance the books for a few more years, and we've sort of got to go ahead with it because there's still that huge pile of glossy reports from the snake-oil salesmen Atkins, dating from almost a decade ago, in the corner of Tim's office, and we can't take them up the council dump any more because we've been taking so much stuff up there they classify it as commercial waste?

I follow whatPaul is saying but currently buses from River have stopped going down Crabble Hill so River people us oldies cannot pick up the 68 to Market Square.

Sue, you can pick up 68 at Frith Road or Maison Dieu Road, though I'm not sure without checking how long you'd have to wait!
I can't see why a bridge across the A2 would be needed when there's a perfectly good one already!

Me neither BUT
The findings of the above study forecast that the BRT would operate commercially when Dover’s growth agenda has been fully implemented in 2031. The study also recognised that the BRT routeing is greatly benefited by the delivery of the proposed A2 bridge. In terms of viability, accessibility and attractiveness for passengers, the bridge is the most important infrastructure component of this scheme."We are living in very strange times, and they are likely to get a lot stranger before we bottom out"

The new bridge will be across the dual carriageway bit, right? Just can't work out where it comes down on either side of the A2.

Try Googling 'Dover rapid bus transport'. There's a load of PDFs come up with maps. I never learnt how to copy PDF addresses!

Don't consultants have funny ideas? At least this explains why that bit of land next to Tesco has not been developed. All to avoid buses doing a double run along Honeywood Parkway.

I'm pleased that DDC have gained a grant for the Rapid Bus Service connecting parts of Whitfield to the Town Centre ,one would hope how ever that our Councillors will secure funding for repairs to our roads and for a better bus service.Im not that nieve I realise different pots of funds but there is no reason why District Councillors.Kent County Councillors and our MP should not campaign on our behalf.A bus journey on out of date buses, over pot hole roads is no joke.Plus a two mile journey on a bus because of the routing should not take twenty five minutes.

So when exactky does the very first unit open and do we get to marvel at this long-awaited retial wonder? A vague "mid-February" is the nearest I can find, as far as I have been bothered to research it.

Traffic Lights installed at the entrance to the development at Woolcomber Street and pedestrian crossings set out.
This end of the site has been cleared in anticipation of the long awaited opening (date?)
The area around Cineworld and the Restaurant Unit is neatly set out with parking bays
Still no news on Bella Italia's decision or who will occupy the Frankie & Benny's unit.

Good to see the cycle paths there, presumably there will be a facility to park them up there.

The 24 hour Gym looks to be completed now so it seems just a matter of cleaning up the site and shop fitters going about their work.

I would think that businesses due to open there are liaising with each other in order to keep opening dates close together. I cannot see the restaurants opening before the Multiplex is up and running.

Restaurants? You mean Nandos or are you including Greggs?
