I could have sworn that the unit showed as vacant before with the old F&B unit as under offer...Anything is possible with my memory these days

A vomit inducing sample from the menu:
"S'mores
A traditional American favourite! Two freshly baked Belgian chocolate chunk cookies with rich salted caramel chocolate fudge cake & mini marshmallows sandwiched between."

Given the choice of savoury over sweet I choose savoury every time, the above sounds revolting but explains why the Americans are so fat. Dare I say that as someone who is ashamed to stand on the scales as I might bust them.

You could try the ribs Jan!
"Maple Walnut Beef Ribs
A single or double portion of our succulent beef ribs smothered in maple flavoured syrup and walnuts."

There must be something you would like Jan! (other than a sick bag)
"The Triple Threat Burger
Not for the faint hearted; a bacon cheeseburger, a pulled pork burger and a meat machine burger, topped with 2 onion rings, all stacked on top of each other! You've not seen anything like it!"

I just looked at the photos of the food and decided it wasn't for me without even reading the menu.

I note that Hancocks is apparently 'famous for ribs', though I expect that is the last thing we will see on the land-whales already circling the St James' site.

Oh ye of little faith(especially Bob) Greggs at St James are reopening on the morrow and the first few customers will get free hot drinks to wash down one of their legendary pasties.

Excellent news Howard. I wonder what they have negotiated their rent down to?
Dover is fast becoming a foodie Mecca for the discerning eater.
I hear even the drive-in KFC is on many people's bucket list?

With my weight problem the last thing I need is more cafes etc.I really thought all those years ago I was voting for clothes shops .Would save trips to Canterbury. How misled we Councillors were.I never did trust those consultants.

The consultants were right all those years ago Sue but the days of clothing chains in the high street are numbered, just look locally at Burtons and M & S. It surprised me when Next opened here despite having too much floor space nationwide. Unless a retailer has something extra to offer people will buy online.

At those prices I shall be sticking to 'spoons thank you very much.
Eleven quid for a basic burger and twelve quid for a hotdog?????!!!!!
Anyone paying those prices needs their head testing imo.
Plus, it looks like they can't even be bothered to peel their potatoes.
Now. Having typed that, a bit more research reveals this:
https://hancocksrestaurants.co.uk/one-feeds-two/
"For every full priced main meal you buy we will donate one school meal to a child living in poverty".
That may explain things (a bit. I doubt a school dinner costs even a quarter of one of their burgers).

Sadly its a reflection on what Dover has become and the direction it is headed. DTIZ is great for port traffic passing through but does little for residents or promoting the town as a visitor location. Many years ago people would come from Deal and Sandwich to shop in Dover high street which was very busy but now it is on its last legs and DTIZ has accelarated this.
Although most people have written of the future of traditional high streets, I am not convinced. I think the towns which have kept their high streets will eventually reap the rewards. Nostalgia is a potent force and just might give the cash in hand lithuanian delivery person chucking your online order over a fence, a run for their money.
