Sue, the problem is that most people in 2019 will not walk more than 100 yards to a bus stop. With Whitfield/River etc because we have low density housing (a stupid and inefficient use of land) unless you have loads of bus stops taking the bus hours to visit them all, a bus service is not likely to be viable.

bob, river has had the same amount of bus stops for 50 plus years, evan though river has trebled in size during that time.

That is all very well but we have a Government that believes bus services should be run for the benefit of shareholders and cuts funds to local authorities who might have liked to intervene.

So why the Hell should you expect someone else to pay to ship people into the shops who have chosen to buy a place miles from anywhere complete with their own garden.
If we repopulate our town centres we would revitalise our High Streets AND it would become worthwhile having decent public transport.
Look at Barcelona. Look at Bordeaux. High density housing. Fantastic public spaces. Brilliant public transport. It's not sodding rocket science.

You are right Brian same bus stops for years. Most people have to walk up hill etc to get to Lewisham Road .I don’t live near the bus stop.
If you live in Coxhill Gardens a lovely steep climb with your shopping .Cowper Road .Lower Road Imthink Bob needs to canvass River.I thought the idea was to encourage people not to use their cars .

I thought all the houses on Cowper rd have private drives? stupid people buying houses with drives when they don't have cars no wonder we make them live in a village!

It is Sue. IF DDC had an ounce of sense (which they don't) by now you would have a Sustrans standard cycle/pedestrian path all the way from Kearney Abbey to the Seafront with branches off to the Railway Station, Castle, Whitfield etc.
With the range of mobility scooters 10/70 km and electric bikes and scooters even further transport/air quality/health could be improved for everyone at comparatively little cost.
Instead we'll get more 'solutions' which didn't even work in the last century while the rest of the world moves on.

Most of those in expensive houses with driveways are elderly and some have given up driving and perhaps the rest should.

They should also consider releasing the equity in their property, gifting some to their offspring so they can get on the ladder and moving closer to the amenities they so crave.

Not aimed at you Sue, but there are many single and married elderly who should consider it, for economic reasons if no other (inheritance tax at £325 000 currently the price of a detached bungalow on Cowper rd) If they need care they could lose the property anyways, if they die in the house their family will lose 40% of every pound over the £325 000 In many cases it makes financial sense.
Plus the freed equity could make for a more fullfilling old age. As they say you can't take it with you.

Far to many old people stay in their large houses (which they often fail to maintain properly) simply because they are afraid of change, at the same time they complain about high bills and lack of amenities.
If I was all on my own and my daughter and her partner did not live with me, I would move into a small flat like the new ones about to be built on the old sorting office site.
