Is this the end or will China Gateway put in a new application with fewer dwellings? I suspect the latter.

They will not give in easily.Zmoney is the root of all evil.I. Wonder why you are so keen on the development Brian.I moved to Kent in 1971 and after Yorkshire I thought to myself what a lovely County Kent is .Over the years I have seen so many areas of ANOB covered over .There are plenty of brown field sites without spoiling the country side .
They are building more homes on brown field sites in St Radigunds. Why doesn't DDC concentrate on the brown field sites?
Why not get on with DTIZ too many eggs in one basket comes to mind.

1 or 2 councillors have long expressed concerns about China Gateway, this could prove to be a blessing in disguise. Bond City have been pulling DDC's pants down for years.

The idiocy of encouraging everyone to become a homeowner is a fairly recent phenomenon. We are now seemingly all obsessed with owning property as a source of wealth rather than to provide shelter which is as stupid as the Tulip Mania in Holland in the 1600s and will inevitably end up with the same result.
Apart from providing employment for brickies and profit for builders, the fact that so many of us are spending money to pay our huge mortgages ( caused NOT by the lack of accommodation but by the stupidity of recent Governments with their economic policies to encourage everyman and his dog to 'get on the housing ladder' ) money is being sucked out of the economy which could otherwise be spent on goods and services or invested in business, upping our woeful productivity, and reducing the necessity of unrestricted immigration to pump-prime this Ponzi scheme of an economy, providing employment and actually allowing some of us a little enjoyment in spending our hard won earnings during our short time on this planet.

I was about to post that home ownership is a very British thing but decided to check the facts first.

370. Very interesting Howard.
People in the UK want to own their own homes to have control over their living arrangements and to make a home to bring up their families in. The current rental rules mean families can be forced to move frequently which is very disruptive. The investment aspect is a secondary factor for most home owners. I think Dover town needs to grow its population and encourage families to live here in good-sized well constructed homes in attractive locations. A falling, ageing population doesn't encourage businesses and leisure providers to come to Dover.

sue,in this case there is room for it,besides 1 of the houses that face the farm shop went for 240,000 gb pounds resently, now being extended side ways by 4 meters.
is that why the village of river has extended and become part of kearsney and crabble.

Take your point Brian.Talking of River ,many years ago planning per mission was given for backland development in. ,Cowper Road my collegue and I were against it we narrowly lost the vote so now Cowper Road has twice as,many houses. The Road is still privately owned with no pavement and very few lights. It is more or less a one track road.

Where Vic and I live they wanted twice the number of houses but no Social housing, but local Councillors fought for less density and a mixture of tenure. So Vic should thank me as we won the day.
The development behind Lewisham Road before my days on the Council and far too many for the road s which serve the housing .
The rec was saved from housing after much fighting for the cause in the Council Chamber.Badgers Rise was won on the Chairmans casting vote I was against it.
So River has overcome some dreadful planning applications but you cannot always win.
I will always fight for the country side .I stayed In Kent as I love the country side the approach roads into Dover are lovely. How about Four hundred houses in Aycliffe make you a little village .

Somewhere in the recesses of my mind is the idea that Mr Ripley is in the local branch of the CPRE, if so he will be involved in celebrations tonight, "Wickerman" springs to mind.

Re post 378 I. Understand Councillors even Parish Councillors have their addresses and contact number published. The phone book also publishes your number and address. Most people know we live in the same part of River .So what is your problem.?My point was to point out sometimes developments are good and others a terrible mistake.Where we live is one of the best designed development.Let us enjoy it and be thankful we can live here .
