I do not know if this true but I have just seen this. Anyone shed some light on this?
“Unfortunately Manning’s and Thurston’s family funfair will not be returning to pencester gardens Dover due to proposed work by the council on the gardens, we did ask for a alternative site in Dover but none were available.....we would like to take this opportunity to thank the community of Dover and the surrounds for their support over the years, we’ve loved bringing the fair ( and enjoyment) to your town and are saddened that it as come to a end.
Signed Manning’s and Thurston’s“

It appears looking at other sites that DDC wants to do some improvements in pencester
It appears they asked for an alternative site but was declined

This not good news the fun fair has been coming to Dover for many years and familys love to go to it ,the council need to do a rethink about this,
It could go in the park or even on the sea front but the D.H.B. would stop that it could go in the elmsvale playing grounds.

You researched all of that from other sites? Why did you not just read Gary's post? Would have saved you the trouble!

I dont think the fair would do so well anywhere else.Elms vale rec if it could go there is too far out.Fairs that open throughout the week only really work in town centres with plenty of passing trade and within walking distance for many.

I never said it was the best place ,but the Circus always done well up there and the bus goes up there and alot of the public do have cars other is school fields now not used and the fair could use one of them with funds going to the school.

I can remember the circus going to Elms vale rec but that was probably back in the 70s,dont think any have been there since, they had to take the railings out so the loads could pull on.Circus would probably do ok on there but not so sure on the fair.Very limited in Dover for places to go,you need good access for the loads as some can be much longer than the average HGV,70,80,90ft is not uncommon for fairs,Connaught doesnt have good access and far too unlevel, schools have some good fields but again the access is often not very good,as i,m involved in this type of business i know what its like.If sometimes you can find a suitable rec,its often surrounded by houses so then comes noise complaints and the list goes on and on,best of luck in finding a solution.

The fair came to Elms Vale at least once in the 70s. Gerry Cottle's circus visits were the highlight of the summer for us teenagers living in Elms Vale.

That's working well......................when "they" have tarmaced all the flowers beds along the Pencester entrance.....where the bus stops are........
Cut down two glorious Cherry Blossom Trees in the Centre.....never replaced them...
There were four metal seats in the Centre of the "park".....three have been removed.....never replaced.
A beautiful Willow Tree on the island....hacked down...never replaced.....

Thank you
