I do wish Keith you would read my postings correctly .I have opened the Dover Fair On two or three occasions ..I have the pictures to prove this. My children went to the fair when they were younger.I cannot state more that there were several reasons why this decision was made .You should know that sometimes hard decision have to be made.Did you not Realise when you were a councillor you can’t please all the people all the time ..

So how does every other town manage?why cant ours?yes there is always going to be problems of antisocial behaviour but that happens on a daily basis everywere, with or without the fair.In the past few years the fair has done everything possible,Arris security fencing, cctv, security, music kept to a reasonable volume, strict no alcohol policy, and earlier closing times.Every other town and council seem to manage with this.Something for the kids to enjoy during the holidays but no longer here.Still we can all enjoy picking blackberries from the hedgerows, gaze with wonder at Dover castle, and gasp with amazement as a Spitfire performs yet another barrel roll over the iconic white cliffs of dover.

Andy .
Today we agree
It appears this council just wants to stand in the way of things .
Sue I do fully read your posts , there were other parts where you decided to personalise your post on you didn't visit fayre etc and that's fine .
If it is on anti social behaviour surely more could be done on that score and removing the fayre won't change it

This is 2022 not 1822 and although I love strolling along country lanes and enjoying the Spitfires, the children and families of Dover want something else, this is just another removal of what is left in Dover.
I'm all for transparency in public life, so why can't DDC actually say why this has happened and be truthful?
They have done this because they'd rather get rid of a perceived problem than actually deal with it.
I wonder what reason they give for allowing the drunks to take over the park? Probably breaching their human rights to remove them and stop them abusing local people.....

River Rec or Crabble would be able to fit the fair I'd imagine.

Andypole
We agree again.
There are places it could have gone .
Pencester and anti social behaviour isn't going to change because of fayre leaving .
Open and transparent council ?

Use River or Crabble? Despite supposedly being proud of living in Dover, River residents wouldn't want us peasants messing up their area
Mind you, I doubt the drunks could make it that far out of the town, so it might be a good option!

Almost as ridiculous as suggesting the interesting things happening at Samphire Hoe, that unless you're capable of walking there, using your car or getting a non existent bus service, it's not really an option.
I suppose I could tell the "youth of today" they can watch the same film for a fiver every day.....
You enjoy your fete, unfortunately some of us have to work on the Jubilee weekend to try and keep your country running.

Samphire hoe is a great place with some great events there from time to time but for example if i gave my grandkids the choice of hunting for beetles, making pictures from lentils and dried grass or going to the fair with fast exiting rides, the latest music and a great atmosphere i think i know which they would choose.

What’s wrong with the clock tower new marina curve area, I thought that’s what it’s for, events like this? Surely it’s big enough, isn’t it?

Would be good but i doubt they would allow it with the size and weight of the rides on the new tarmac.

They would also probably choose Maccy D's for dinner every night, but isn't that why adults have to make choices for them

It's not reasonable arguments being used .
The council hasnt said how it will deal with the present daily anti social behaviour, if that's the aim.
