Funny comments on here .Common sense .How often do you read or the news about people claiming. Most people who put on an event have to complete a risk assessment .Do you recall Carnival Days Lorries now have to have sides up and in some cases netting to protect the people on the floats throwing coins not allowed so how times change .I see Neil Rix now involved ? .?

Neil is on the Dover town council and he and other members of there team as well as the town Mayor are trying to HELP the town. Unlike others.
As you keep saying Risk assessments Yes we all understand them. Has common sense gone out the window ?
I think you will find any business which are public facing will have Risk assessments in place as well as public liability insurance in place.
Sorry I must leave off the count some blades of grass before somebody walks on it.

Common sense says there has to be Risk Assessment but then certain risks are deemed safe for events to continue.
A couple of examples, the Regatta is deemed safe even though someone might fall in the water or much more likely trip on the beach or pavement. Carnivals are deemed safe even though a majorette's baton might hit someone by mistake.

True, though you won't find powerboat racing included in it - risks being a combination of Likelihood and Severity (should the incident occur).

Minor things
Neil is a rep on Dover Harbour Board
.
And Rix a town cllr .
Of course over the years the fayre would have risk assessments in place .
But that just moves away from the decision made .
Who made the decision ?
Why ?
How much Influence did police have ?
Thankfully the DDC were embarrassed into doing a U-turn
So maybe now, if it was anti social behaviour that was the concern (as no one has come forward from DDC to explain )
That they have a plan to help deal with it

My point entirely.
Risk assessments, rusk assessments, tusk assessments, busk assessments...
Given that at no point (afaik) did DDC claim that the decision was made because of a risk assessment, introducing this baloney into the thread is like trying to clean a dirty window with worm juice.

What a shame. My first few fairground experiences were at Pencester, big top as well though we'd moved away by the time it visited Elms Vale. Took me right back to the Sixties on our Recent Visit when we visited Elms Vale to find some original fixtures surviving. Didn't have time to go to Pencester Gardens, sadly, perhaps better that we didn't by the sounds of it.

What's nosey about wanting to know why and how our council make decisions on our behalf? We pay the buggers so they should be answerable to us!

Personally I rate the admonishing #94 as way more "nasty" than the questioning #93!

#90. At least the fair is returning, something that was announced on FB a few days ago, a shame about the quality of some of the subsequent replies.
From FB posted by Madison Manning..........WE’RE COMING BACK!!!! OPENING DAY FRIDAY 17th JUNE at 3pm , CLOSING DAY SUNDAY 26th JUNE AT 7pm!

Regardless of the language used (even though I can't see what was offensive) it's great to see the fair returning but there is nothing wrong asking public servants what the background was to stop it in the first place, and then the subsequent (what appears to be) U-turn?
My two teens were very happy when I told them the fair is coming back and I suppose that's the best bit
