Let's assume that the Mail has done some dependable research for a change and think about the problem. How best to solve it? Take away the trafficker's business model, of course.
Unfortunately, that's not politically acceptable in certain quarters.

Serious question. If the positions were reversed do you think the UK would put up with tens of thousands of undocumented illegals camping on the coast and being fed and clothed by foreign 'charities'?

Not really relevant to the point in the Mail article but a question which merits a serious answer.
No - of course we wouldn't. And neither do the French. They've been moving asylum seekers on and razing their 'camps' to the ground for years. But they keep returning. Relatively, their numbers are low. Considerably more seek asylum in France. The problem which preoccupies you and this hapless government is the remainder who are determined to come to the UK - 75% of whom are successful in their application. Of those who are rejected and subsequently appeal, the success rate is 50%.
If only we could think of a way of meeting our international obligations without forcing these people into small boats.

Ray. I refer to undocumented illegals NOT asylum seekers. DO give me a call when you half understand the 'problem' if you see it as such.
Grateful to know (for example) why EU are in middle of negotiations to return undocumented migrants to Tunisia but refuse to discuss matter with UK, with us returning to France?

Despite making up only 13% of London's total population, black Londoners account for 45% of London's knife murder victims, 61% of knife murder perpetrators and 53% of knife crime perpetrators.10 Feb 2022

And who are you to determine whether a fellow human being is an undocumented illegal (whatever that means) or an asylum seeker? I really don't feel any great need or desire to 'give you a call' to acquire whatever wisdom or knowledge that you erroneously believe you possess.
Equally, I might ask you why the UK has been so desperate to petition (unsuccessfully as it happens) the EU commission to be able to return failed asylum seekers to their point of EU entry. It's an international problem. If we choose to take a unilateral approach then we can only expect the obvious consequences.

You can see from the last two posts why it's chaos

No official UK documentation of any kind means a person is 99.5% likely to have entered illegally.
If no persecution or war in the country they last left or came from they are not claim to be asylum seekers.

So your initial outrage concerned the fact that the UK side did it's bit when medical facilities in Nord-pas-de Calais are so superior? More deflection, more BS.
TWD did readers a favour in introducing that wonderfully appropriate term Schrodinger's Douchebag.
Thanks RH. Not my phrase obvs. Think I first heard it from the comic Doug Stanhope.
Douchebag is a bit of an Americanism though (I type. Showing my own prejudiced -isms
).
Dickhead is a more appropriate British term for the same kind of behaviour I think. It also implies tending towards ignorant idiocy rather than don't give a shit/knowing malice.
I googled "Schrodinger's Dickhead" and the front page of results all came back as "Shrodinger's Asshole". Which is also an Americanism. An ass is a donkey you arses.

I think this is exactly the case Keith. There are no workable solutions, an extremely difficult situation to change, especially as there are so many illegal immigrants already here now and more still come daily. The government are trying several ways to stop it, but there are too many people that seem to want to block their efforts.
I have no answer, but I think the possible solution may in in France rather than here....

If you were the French Govt would you want to stop crossings ?

I cannot think of a more difficult policy conundrum to fix. However, I do know one thing, getting on top of the backlog and actually processing people will be a huge help. We'd then be in a very different situation - we could legitimately say that we'd processed people, determined that they were not genuine asylum seekers and they should be returned. At present, it's too easy for other countries to point out that they haven't even been processed, so no debate to be had.
Of course, the problem the government has is that the main goal seems to be to create division with Labour, which isn't happening. They've also gambled everything that they'll win a battle along the lines of "We've tried everything to stop the boats, but pesky, leftie lawyers, the EU, France, aliens, weather, the solar system etc. have made it impossible". That won't cut it.
