18:3633883this is beginning to go right over my head, paul the fuhrer and his side are saying that council tax bills will be unaffected by the change of control of these facilities.
john and his side are saying the opposite.
i asked in post 17 whether we would be paying more council tax, nobody involved seems to have read it.

22:4733902If Town Council take over Loos, then of course your bill will go up, £70,000 + is needed to keep the loos going, if we have a 1% increase on our precept it works that it will cost you or I another 66p our our tax bill, of course it would have to go up more than 1%, its funny DDC never wants to give DTC anything that makes money, (ie) car parks etc) just things that lose money

22:5833903someone is telling porkies here!!
paul the fuhrer said in post 4 that council tax bills will be unaffected by transferring control of our much loved urinals.
is the cruel truth that we are about to be inconvenienced?
i have a sneaking suspicion that a game of party politics is being played by both sides knowing that a general election will coincide roughly with the arrival of the enevelope from the council.

08:0533913Howard!!!!! What are you implying??!! That politicians of all persuasions and responsibilities might stretch the truth or evade the issue to their advantage ? Shame on you!!

09:2133921I believe that the point that should be made, is that whether it's the District or Town Council that take over loos, the cost to the public will still be the same - they won't pay twice.
I don't think the residents are particularly worried who pays for the toilets (Town or District), so long as they are open and running.
I'm not sure I understand why these scare-stories are being put about.
If the Town Council (as many people want) are to take over more and more responsibilities
why all the grumbles ?
Does the Town Council not want to have more things brough to a more local level ? More responsibilities mean just that; people won't pay twice, DDC won't charge for services they aren't providing.
We must support the Town Council in taking over more and more.

17:5434278this story appears to go rumbling on, our susan has been moaning about the ones in russel gardens, the district council say it is the responsibility of the parish council.
we shall have to wait until april to know whether it is costing us or not.

11:3334327in the Mercury there is an article about the Council selling off the play area at Poulders Gardens and the residents are not very happy about that either. It seems as if they can they will sell anything and everything.
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!

12:0334334As far as the toilets go,DDC rates at the moment include the toilets,in the new DDC council rates they won't because they will sell them off,do you get a refund of this part of your Council Tax....No! Now the Town Council may/will be running them, now Parish Councils are not capped so where the District Council can only put up the precept by 5% Town Councils don't have a limit,so they can put up thier rates by as much as they have to.Before Watty told me to keep my nose out of Walmer Parish Council because I don't live there, correct but being a District Council I have the intrests of my Ward,My Town and My District to represent,Walmer's rates are going up by 40 yes 40% to pay for the toilets in Walmer.
It is not just the running of the Toliets but the ones near the Town Hall need gutting and refurbishing and if the Town Council take them on thier increase was going to be approx 0% if they take on the toilets the increase at a guess would be 20%.
So the DDC wont run them no money back.
If the Town Council run them big increase.
I still say double rating on the same things, perhaps DDC will offer the Town Council a car park to help with the cost.....No chance..they take money.
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!

19:1134404There is no such thing as 'double rating' (except in political speak for "I wish to show how complicated council work is and prove I am doing my bit"). Once a contract is made the job is done once and paid for once, by whichever council is doing the contracting. Paul is being economically honest in that DDC rates will not go up, they can't because they are capped, but ignoring the fact that the DTC part of the rate bill will have to increase to cover extra costs.
At the end of the day town and parish councils will take up the slack and maintain the simple public services we should all be able to expect, such as toilets, and it is up to the electorate to decide if DDC have met their obligations or just renaged on them.
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.

Stats damned stats - and that goes for any local authority information! Tweak it as they will to gain positive publicity. One of the admirable things about CP is that he is clear and above board. Take note, local politicians!

20:5034411so it appears that things are becoming clear at last, the bill that hits the doormat will be unaffected.
thanks for that clarification chris.
i was beginning to give up on a clear answer from our party politicos.

21:1134420chris stated that the ddc rates are capped.
ddc send us the bill so i am taking it that we will not be charged extra for the inconvenient conveniences.
having said that, political speak is far too clever for me at times.

17:1834466Bet you are wromg Howard.I will make a prediction now,I have looked into my Crystal Ball and it says that DDC will raise its precept by 4.95% same as last year maximum before they get capped is 5% when they had the toilets.Dover Town Council will be 0% if they don't take on the loos,if they do perhaps 20% increase.
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!

17:3034468you have lost me totally john.
this seems like internal talk that councillors use, all i want to know is whether the bills will be higher because of the transfer of our hand washing facilities.
the bill will be higher than last year for other reasons anyway.
