More interesting is who might not cover it! I believe that the good Mayor's scaffolding operation is a regular source of advertising revenue in the Dover Express?
I hear that the 'exclusive interview' was being given by 'phone at the same time that the local Labour Party was trying to 'phone Mr Rix to tell him not to talk to the press. Doh!

The video is on the Dover Express Facebook page so they can not be worried about lost advertising.
Has the Mayor been a councillor prior to now?

Thanks Sue I could not remember.
This is certainly embarrassing for the Town Council, I have little sympathy with the Mayor as drug taking is wrong regardless of whether it was a five years ago or yesterday.

It's all over the national press but the way Dover Town Council have responded and the changing story from the Mayor which has already implicated Kent Police will probably fuel this highly embarrassing White Sniffs of Dover story for a few days.

Rix will never resign over this, as he's got no shame or honor.
What a disgrace for our town on a nationwide scale !!

The Sun, Metro and the BBC are running it at present but I don't think it is a resignation issue, after all he wasn't selling it.

I do not see how he can stay after this as he has made a complete fool of himself never mind the legality of drug taking. For me the question is will he go quietly and with dignity or will he have to be pushed.

Sadly I think Neil has little or no choice but to resign.
It is irrelevant whether he did or did not know, the length of time since the incident, whether he is or is not being blackmailed; the fact is that he has wittingly or otherwise through his actions brought the office of Mayor into disrespect.
The fact that it is all over the national media and troll sites like Facebook only makes the matter worse.
It actually does not even matter if he has not broken the letter of the Code of Conduct, as he has clearly broken the spirit of it and as such our Town Clerk should be actively encouraging him to step down for the sake of the town.
The sad reality is that if we choose to put ourselves in the public's sights we are likely to become a target and be shot at.

Sky news and the Telegraph are now onto it making his position untenable, unfortunately this is happening during the "silly season" when news is scarce so journalists hunt around for stories to fill pages. I wonder how many of the hacks gloating over it snort the stuff themselves?

Even in this day and age to be in public office you have to have a squeaky clean image ,someone suggested on Dover 4 disgruntled for independent blood tests witnessed by independent ppl ,if the results are clean then let him keep his job with a warning ,if hes negative then instant resignation ,we all do daft things at times and maybe with Mr Rix it was just one of those times

It could have been worse. He could have been sat wearing a bra and snorting it of a hookers tit .

Re the above post whenI had to face the embarrassment of not being able to attend River Parish Council in my capacity as a District Councillor for six months ,having to face a kangaroo court which includesd the previous poster my work for the Community counted for nought.I was proved right in my actions.Pehaps money does count. Which I have little of I will not comment on the thread
I also will say some Town Councillors were not very gracious towards me when I got the memorial seat relocated in front of the DTC office.Being in Public life is not easy.

A thorough investigation must be made of DTC ,too many scandals keep cropping up ,Lots of murmurings from ppl who don't believe they are getting value for money .After all what exactly do they do and represent . DTC & KCC should have been got rid of yrs ago ,just a waste of taxpayers money when it could be used in various districts
