Mr Rix doesn't belong to a political party so there would be no vetting procedure in his case.

I don't know about other parties but when you seek to become a Conservaive Councilor you have to go through a selection procedure. What I found sometimes a Councillor with less experience than your self Would be on the panel.
This topic will rumble on and on.Silence from some posters.I recall Pam Brivo had a very hard time?Who will be at the service today?.

Clearly he should resign now as the story won't go away and his family are bearing the brunt of it. Whether it affects his businesses is another matter.

I like Neil and he was one of the better Indy Cllrs but this will not go away, for the sake of himself and his family who will be hounded, best to resign,if he believes he was right stand again and let the people have say by voting.
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!

Not only for his family but also for the good name of the town or in future every time Dover is in the news his foolishness will be raised yet again.
There is also the doubt that whatever he says in the future he will not be believed after the dubious explanations he has given over this incident.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

We wouldn't be having this thread had Mr Rix acted in the privacy of his own privy and I suspect that the 'Shock horror - mayor is a fallible human being' story has a limited shelf-life. Whatever happened, or did not, it doesn't yet appear to be a 'Nolan' issue. Do I expect my Councillor to be perfect - nah, unless it affects me. Do I expect my Mayor to be perfect - dunno really, but then I didn't vote.

I think its a storm in a teacup. Not that I have any aspirations to get into politics, so I shouldn't come under scrutiny, but there's certain aspects of my past that wouldn't stand too close a look, so it would be a bit hypocritical of me to condemn Mr. Rix. The worst I can think to say is that it wasn't the brightest thing to allow himself to be filmed by a 'friend'.

In all seriousness, it's a shame this has happened as Neil is an independent. I do not see how he can hold on to his job how though and for his sake and the town's he should go asap .

Yes it's just a storm in a teacup. The fact that any other council in the country would have acted swiftly in sacking him and its townsfolk would have demanded it, is irrelevant. Who cares if Dover is continuously the laughing stock of the UK or shooting itself in the foot when it’s trying to attract inward investment.

One of the best Mayors this Town ever had was forced to resign because of an indiscretion on his part and the ensuing media frenzy. Today few remember who it was or what he did but the Town is a poorer place for his resignation.
I have no idea if the Mayor is a good one or a bad one but I would prefer to judge him on what he is doing positively for the Town not on a monumental indiscretion.

No it was more recent and I won't give his name because he still lives in the area and continues to benefit the community by anonymous ways.
