Residents should be encouraged to vote for the candidate who is active and listens to them and is prepared to vote against the party machine if it’s not in the best interests of their community.

One could argue that voting Conservative only encourages them.

Not even if they are an extremely good candidate who does the best for their community? Local elections should never be party based only who is the most appropriate for the area they want to
represent.

There was a DDC elected candidate who matched that description in my constituency. Unfortunately, she only last one term!
There's nobody else around who remotely fits that description at the moment.

I’d need a huge amount of convincing to vote conservative again, in my opinion they simply don’t listen to the electorate

That suggests you'll not be voting anymore, if you find one that does listen let us know.

Sadly I suspect that I may not exercise my right to vote again

To be honest at the moment unless you have already got a good councillor I think many of us might not vote. I have no idea if any of my councillors are any good as I know nothing about them without looking them up I can not even remember who they are, conspicuous with their silence and absence.

Do you mean you'll never vote Conservative again, or that you'll never vote conservative again? The former haven't been the latter for years, but rather New Labour with blue optics. Would you not consider voting for a genuinely conservative candidate?

I think we are all thinking the same way although I'm aware who the councillors are
We have few community focussed .
Sadly Sue you are correct Gordon isnt standing and we are left with the also rans,
Whilst N Collor and Mrs Beresford are not most cups of tea , they have stitched up the ward so they can hold the seat as long as they want .
As good as Gordon is, he would at least have given them a run for there money , but the main opposition candidates are unknown and certainly not strong enough to win these seats .
The winners will be apathy sadly

I believe disillusioned and p****d off with the lot of them is how the vast majority of voters feel about our ineffectual councillors whichever council we end up talking about. I have always voted in our local elections but this time I doubt I will bother unless there are new candidates in my area.

Is this a coincidence by any chance after my comment.
I have just seen a post on FB by someone whose name seemed familiar checked and strangely enough it just happens to be my local councillor whose last post to that group was back in July 2018.

I don't understand retail. Ordered 3" plastic funnel to decant gin from 2 ltr bottle into something more manageable. £1.78 from eBay seller including postage and packaging. That was 17th March. It's just arrived by courier. Well, I'm chuffed but how does anyone make a living at this?

Oh dear. Getting desperate in Canterbury.
'Alongside leading fashion and beauty concessions and homeware brands, it will offer interactive experiences, including the popular escape rooms, one-to-one Weight Watchers sessions and even activities like axe-throwing'.

And this does not bode well?

We've been this way before (complete with the ever popular escape room!)

Meanwhile Deal today is absolutely rammed. Crowds in town centre and huge queues for various 'artisan' stalls in market. Pier busy and locals + half of London wandering around carrying coffee cups.
It's nice here. No riff-raff!

More desperation here!
'the new development is envisaged to have a "synergy and combination of similar traders in one location"! (Who actually writes this bollocks?)
At least the local council has stopped them making the whole thing out of shipping containers (see DHB proposals for marina)
