Saw the Market Square renovations yesterday- sales of spray paint for graffiti will go through the roof - all that white stone will prove irresistible to our local “artists “. Who comes up with these lunatic ideas? Clearly people who don’t look around them!

Arthur agree.Seats are terrible design.I rarely go into town .Sad but those who make these decision will never learn. When we had that lovely floral display in the Market Square with shops of interest .
The worst thing was Marks moving .Bus stops moved. So I prefer to wander along River and when I’m home enjoy my garden .

I didnt think it was a wise move either but i had heard the lease was coming to an end on the old shop.

I wonder if the following comment from Brian's first link has a valid point, as an example did Rooks adapt and do home delivery like so many other businesses did?........

Other similar businesses thrived because of covid. More people were eating at home and needed good suppliers of quality food. Many businesses started up good delivered and websites and found a whole new market.
Whilst covid clearly didn't help and the lack of support for business from Johnson - too busy handing out billions to mates exploiting covid that money could have helped business less savvy in seeing new opportunities covid presented.
To just blame covid is as stupid to just blame brexit.
I suspect business was not booming before covid and they simply did not have an agile enough management to make the changes needed.

Jeff Vane owed £3.5K. Painful for a wonderful local business like that. You really do have to question they way Rooks has been managed based upon that report.

Oh dear. Sources say there's been a 50% over-run on Market Square 'redevelopment' costs.

Agree Simon.Surely who ever agreed this project should have been keeping a watchful eye on this .I recall the Deal Pier some years ago and I challenged not always popular but all Councillors should keep an eye on projects .Anyone could see that the Market Square refurbishment was well behind time .Makes me want to weep.Over budget projects what that money could have been used for?.
