Age Concern used to get numerous brand new things donated that we usually kept for our fairs then if not sold they went into the shop but certainly not anywhere near those prices above. What were we supposed to do with these new items but sell them the only other alternative would be to throw them away which would be completely wrong.
What I am against are items that are purchased wholesale and then sold at normal retail prices as Howard says that is not fair on ordinary shops.

i wasn't thinking of donated new goods jan , i think roger was of the same mind.
thinking about it i have given a box of an unopened dinner set and other new unwanted stuff over the years, usually when moving house.

Is this what I said wrongly Jan ?
"I agree Howard. It should not be possible for Charity shops to sell new products. It goes against the ethos of Charity - giving".
I had not thought of new products being given to Charity shops Jan, I was referring to teh Charity shops buying from wholesalers and then selling them in their shops.

My point was Roger you inferred that charity shops should not sell new items as neither you nor Howard come to that mentioned BUYING from wholesalers.
I am now bowing out of this as I do not want to get involved in a silly debate about something I am sure most of us think is wrong.

The transforming of Gomes bakery in Lorne Road has nearly finished. I assume it'll still be a bakers, judging by the smell of baking bread wafting out the other evening.

Yes, a pity about that, a number of hotels and B&B's used to take their bed linen there. I wonder what happened to all the large washing machines and dryers.

Whilst walking up the High Street I spotted the shop where the handy Haberdashery dwelt was up for let
then continued walking up the London Road and happily noticed that they have moved in to new larger premises there
