some very tempting items on display heike same as at casey's in the charlton centre.
individual bakers are dying out in many towns due to the supermarket giants having them instore but dover has the two mentioned above, greig's, 2 branches of vane's and one along the london road whose name escapes me.
there may be more that i have missed.

No wonder we have empty shops, look at the asking rent on
this one in Pencester Rd. And as it's owned by a property company there will be VAT on top, making it £21k or over £400 a week.

It seems that the book shop opposite the town hall is relocating to Margate.
http://www.kentonline.co.uk/dover/news/nothing-to-keep-book-shop-open-17566/
The owner of the Hooked on Books shop in Dover is moving because trade is slow in the high street.
Gary Belsey, from Broadstairs, has occupied the shop for 16 years in the high street but has been forced to leave due to a lack of trade.
Instead, the shop owner is relocating to Margate's old town, as he feels "things are happening there."
Hooked on Books in Dover high street is relocating to Margate
Mr Belsey said: "It is no longer possible to stay here so I decided to move, there is just not enough trade to keep the shop going. I have lots of loyal customers and it is sad to have to leave them.
"Although Margate has its problems the old town is improving, hopefully it will be a better place."
The businessman also said that Dover has "nothing new".
"Nothing is changing in the town, although they talk about the development nothing is new in Dover," he said.
Personally I stopped going in there years ago, I found him to be so miserable and not really making an effort to push his business.

When I was at the Age Concern shop he used to buy a lot of 50p paperbacks, I always found him very pleasant to serve. To be honest I am surprised he has lasted so long, so many no longer seem to read an ordinary book preferring E-books.

What a shame, but maybe just another sign of the times, I like books, but many of my friends now use a kindle instead and I don't surpose there will be a market for second-hand e-books?

I still prefer a real book to a kindle but in an age where we have electronic everything, even cigarettes, the future does not look good for book shops.

I have just seen on Facebook that the Floor Store Kent carpet shop opening in Worthington Street on Saturday, yet another shop that will be in use which can only be a good thing for the town.

ROOK'S will move its Dover store to Market Square next year, its owners have confirmed.
The butchers will shift from 8 Biggin Street into the unit next to Barclays.
Julie Rook, from JC Rook & Sons, said: "We've been renting for 50 years and thought it was about time we bought somewhere.
"The current premises is not for sale, so we've had to buy another one.
"It's a similar size and shows our confidence in the way Dover is going.
"We're investing a considerable amount of cash in the town because we really believe in it."

A lot of recent activity over that side of town with Darville's opening, the flotilla coming back under a new name, Pier 3 reinventing itself as Peter 3, the micropub/brewery in Market square now Rook's relocating there.
This is what Jan referred to earlier.
