The Barber shop in Priory Street seems to have closed permanently now, hardly surprising as the young bloke in there opened when he fancied whilst the East European ones work 7 days a week.

Had a look around in Store 21 earlier and it looks like their normal summer sale rather than a closing down one which must mean that stock will simply transfer to a more successful branch when the lease runs out.

Noticed earlier that the unit in the High Street between Bailey's Opticians and the pet shop is empty but I can't remember who had the shop before.

That was the cheap bric a brac shop with the lady who featured on some tv program, she used to buy lost suitcases at auction, I'm surprised they remained open as long as they did rarely saw anyone go in.

Roger I seem to remember reading somewhere that the haberdashery shop moved elsewhere but can't think where they went.
I know Mascarada (the fancy dress shop) up London Road used to do alterations and repairs but not sure if they still do.

Noticed both the British Heart Foundation (shut) and RSPCA (moved to Castle Street) gone from Cannon Street last week. I think the link given in post #617 by @Brian Dixon and Ross Millers' subsequent reply maybe suggest why.
Real shame about BHF. A great place for both buying and getting rid of books.

To say Biggin Street is no longer a "prime shopping area" is just madness, talk about doing the town down. The tatty part with it's high rents and council tax is no longer popular but it is still in the shopping area that will lead to St James whenever that will eventually get built.
Whoever the idiot was in planning who decided on that phrase should be sacked as they do not know Dover, no wonder the town is in the state it is.

I think the planners in the article are the property consultants for the applicant not DDC, not a well written piece.

The switch from Dover to Deal becoming the districts prime shopping area is quite staggering. I expect it will become even worse when DTIZ arrives.

The two towns are very different, Deal deservedly winning High Street of the year award but I doubt that the small independent shops would do well in Dover.

It's a pity as I am sure the affluent cruise ship market would be more likely to visit the town if it had independent shops. I am still baffled as to which potential footfall DTIZ is targeted to.

At the moment it seems to be those who like fast food, M&S Food, the occasional trip to the cinema and Next.

This is what baffles me Jan. Cruise ship visitors would be a huge benefit to the town but surely they already have fine dining and entertainment on the ship.

Went past the old hairdresser's shop in Worthington St earlier(Alan's I think it was called) and there is a handwritten notice saying that it would shortly be a tailoring alterations outlet.
