In its everyday usage, the table offers a place for rest, debate, conviviality and reverie; characteristics that have led it to feature in the work of many sculptors and artists. In fact, the table seems to have been subject to an expanding range of explorations and interpretations within the realm of fine art. Examples abound, including Constantin Brancusi’s symbol of peace (“Table of Silence,” 1938), Anthony Caro’s “Table Pieces” (1966-69), Judy Chicago’s emblem of equality (“The Dinner Party,” 1974-9) and Giancarlo Neri’s 30 metre high “The Writer” (2005). As these examples suggest, such explorations have a tendency to engage with the
table’s socio-cultural and political connotations.
A collaborative work between Anthony Heywood and Uwe Derksen in 2011, the Table suggests metaphor and meaning. At the same time it is a physical manifestation of co-creation, art and labour.
It is to be placed in areas of political and social relevance to facilitate dialogue.
Yeah right. That patch of grass at the back of Morrisons ' an area of political and social relevance'. LMAO.
Ye Gods! Who writes this rubbish? (and how much are these toilers in the art industry paid with our money?)

And now news from London Road. Another page in the chequered history of the Central Cafe - it will soon open as a, wait for it, kebab house! Next door is to be yet another mobile phone/computer shop much to the chagrin of Gary a few doors away.
A bit further down the road the former dry cleaners has a sign saying Costa Barber! I wonder what Steve thinks about that?

The Table’ is a symbol of peace, inspired by Brancusi’s Table of Silence:
Or copied from, at least constantin's had seats around it,
ours I predict will become a base for a bonfire before long in that location

I thought the Central Cafe got all done up as a kebab house a few years back then never opened, the building at the time looked like it needed some serious work done on it.

Yes Howard, it's having a serious re-fit. It did open a while back as a kebab shop, it just didn't last partly I think because it was hardly inviting.

I dread to think how much this piece of "art" cost. What other goodies are in store for the rest of the site?

#787 what a waste of time and money.
It is always dark and cold on this bank so who wants to sit and watch the river and traffic? It would be nice if there was a nice view.

Some years ago Thames Television got some kids in a play group average age three to splodge some paint on canvas which they thoroughly enjoyed. They then got some modern art experts in to evaluate them. What a laugh that was, I can remember one going on about the torment of the artist and words like symmetry, juxtapose and conceptual being freely used. I will never forget their faces when they were told who was responsible.

It will be ideal for the dossers to sit on whilst glugging their white lighting.

The piece was commissioned by DTC as part of the olympics celebrations, it has been in storage since, so they decided (perhaps at DADs urging) to redisplay it on its new site

Following on from Ross's post somebody somewhere was fed up with it taking up their valuable storage space and wanted shot of the B thing.
