Is that really the case, Cap'n, that DDC turned MacArthur Glen down for Whitfield? Must have been before I came to Dover. If so, it's yet another frightening reminder of their lack of vision.

The town centre shop keepers were up in arms I was told then again when De Bradelie applied to come here. Macarthur Glen is mostly a designer outlet so couldn't really affect our shops.

Going from memory the previous Santander outlet was being converted into an amusement arcade, I believe work has been going on inside.

It's not just Dover. Now blaming things on 'bad weather' (presumably realising that parking charges and business rates have damn all to do with things?)

Think it's a question of priorities
Was St James a good idea if as predicted it would kill town centre??
Also people need to decide what they want as a Town centre

Like most High streets Dover will condense its shopping area and units will be occupied by things that cannot be bought online.

Thing is Howard I think the recent campaign may well be hyping up local small business when it will never be achieved

A large Hermes vehicle stops outside my house every morning and takes about half an hour to unload parcels for a local courier to deliver to homes spread over a few streets. Add to that all the other courier companies operating it is easy to see why so many shops are struggling.

The fire persons were out in force this morning in Biggin Street but there was a dire shortage of footfall.
