We have the National Audit Office, Federation of small businesses and National Crime Agency warning the Government of the dangers ahead, I fear they are not listening.

Not so long ago, Captain Haddock suggested that DDC councillors would be wasting their time attending Brexit meetings. I was tempted to suggest that they might learn something. However, Mr Elphicke attended but, it seems, learned little if anything - hence this tweet from him:
'On imports the UK controls passport checks at the Calais juxtaposed controls and would decide whether to conduct any customs/regulatory checks. So talk of shortages is from imports is not right.'

Charlie Elphicke is in complete denial at this point, hoping that if he utters "juxtaposed" to enough people, everything will be ok. It's literally at that level, I am afraid.

Has anyone else noticed that Boris and Jacob have suddenly gone quiet, normally they are curling out articles for the Telegraph on an almost daily basis. Could be the calm before the storm should a deal be done that keeps us in the Customs Union.

"Curling out articles" - very evocative, Howard.

More likely they have been severely ticked off with disciplinary threats or as they have no better solutions have decided to keep quiet until after Brexit, then they can claim they did their best when seeking the leadership.

#2624: In some ways I hope he is in denial - a worse take on it would be that he actually believes that UK import clearance triggered from French Dover Straits ports (which is only the Max Fac option from Summer 2016) would work. In the absence of a transition period, it won't because we don't have the freight forwarders/Customs Agents to support clearance at the border/on the crossing. To that extent it's worse than a couple of the ideas in Charlie's own pot-pourri.
But the effect on Kent (and the Irish Land Boundary) is more to do with exports and EU sanitary checks on "food", 20 - 30% of traffic at a guess. I saw Mr Gove giving evidence to a Select Committee recently and thought that he was rather well-briefed for once.

I thought it was very descriptive of many of their articles Ray.

Cheese warning. Daily Mail so MUST be true. Have already been stockpiling tinned food, lavatory paper, bottled water and drugs. Where the Hell am I going to put all the cheese now?

Oh calamity! You would've been better advised to seek a sojourn near Wells: cheddar and water on-tap, and we Wurzels have even been known to get the Daily Mail delivered!

Near Wells? My carer and I shall be attending the Glastonbury Frost Fair next month! It was described by someone as 24 hours of people dressed as pixies and druids staggering up the main street stoned out of their heads, all to the sound of ambient music and badly played pan-pipes, to an overwhelming smell of rotting Afghan coats. Can't wait! Travel Lodge, Street here we come.

I don't think Charlie understands the problems that a cliff edge leaving would cause in Dover. Between 150,000 and 200,000 have never seen let alone filled out a customs document as they have only dealt with EU member states. Other politicians seem to think that using other ports than Calais will solve all problems for some reason. Some exporters and importers could use freight forwarders local to them but many will just stop shipping.

What a calamity we just might not get all the foreign foods that we have at the moment.
I wonder how we will all manage, do you think we will starve or will we happily go back to good old UK produce.
