Much as I like the Guardian and am even a subscriber without needing to this argument that without immigrants we would have to retire later it fails to take into account that the carers that come in from outside will themselves need care themselves when they get old.

A rather unfortunate by-product of the delay in starting talks is that many EU residents are feeling like pawns in a chess game. The sooner it is established that people are allowed to stay in their adopted country the better.

Jezza has said that he will instruct all his MPs to vote for Article 50 which is the right thing in my view but if a constituency voted to remain then it is difficult for their MP to go against them.

Charlie does it all the Time Howard! only difference is he doesn't bother asking our opinion, he just tells us what's best for our own good

Fortunately Winnie Flabbott (Mother of Our Nation) is making Labour Policy clear.
This woman is actually the Shadow Home Secretary! Just think about that for a moment.

In fairness to Ms Abbott not many of us knew that the White Cliffs were symbols of racism until she told us about this time last year.

No real surprise that the Supreme Court rules that Parliament must be given a vote on the matter, no doubt a lot of our money will have been spent on lawyers. There seems to be a body of MPs that want a Referendum on the exit terms and I really can't see how this would work in practice as there are so many issues that wouldn't fit on a ballot paper.

This was a complete farce - the Government has knowingly wasted an awful lot of time and money in appealing this case, knowing damn well that it was the only conceivable outcome.
That said, at the very least it clarifies beyond doubt the circumstances around a referendum, and may hopefully make politicians think twice before gambling the future of the country for their own political means.

I agree it seemed a forgone conclusion and should never have gone to court in the first place.
I suppose the next argument will be over the wording prior to any vote, so more lawyers rubbing their hands waiting for our money to roll into their over stuffed pockets.

The idea appears to be that the Government publish their proposals for a leaving deal and we vote on whether we agree with it or not. Firstly I can't see Mrs May wanting to show her hand prior to negotiations and secondly even if that happened and the public agreed it is highly unlikely that she will get what she asks for. Logically it would then mean another Referendum to give a mandate to the changed terms.

Parliament voted to give us a referendum, very few will vote against the outcome.

Summing up David Davis’ Commons statement today:
Article 50 legislation within days
Bill will be straight-foward, short and simple as possible
Timetable to trigger by March still stands
(Move along please. Nothing to see here)
