Surely this proves beyond doubt that whatever the Tories serve up it'll be indigestible and flatulent: 'Eight hours of talks at the 16th-century mansion in Buckinghamshire, broken up by a dinner of sweetcorn soup and beef rib with parsnip mash, saw May and members of her senior team lead discussions on elements of the Brexit strategy, a Downing Street source said.'

Donald Tusk unimpressed with the meeting even though he doesn't know what was agreed.

You mean concede everything Brian and just give them whatever is best for them before we pull out?
I’m always happy when the EU are “unimpressed”, just means they’re not quite getting what they want and we’re not rolling over like we usually do!

Not rolling over? The old dog's got her legs in the air waiting for a tickle.

Just before Christmas she came back from Brussels boasting a great deal for the UK, so why were the EU negotiators punching the air with delight?

Glad to see her stay in post! They had a tricky job, as it looked like Theresa was going to fall, so by allowing her to announce a great deal, and even go as far as to pat her on the back, they were able to strengthen her position. The alternative, any alternative, was probably deemed too difficult.

The right wing of the Tories will be up in arms as they know that the majority of MPs want stay in a Customs Union now that Labour have come on board. Shouldn't be long before Farage announces his return to frontline politics.

Great news on the Customs union position from Labour - finally a difference between the two. As it happens, I remain convinced that we will have a customs union anyway as the Irish border issue is unresolvable any other way!

FFS! It is not necessary to be in the Customs Union (+downside effects) for UK goods to be imported tariff free into EU, more important is to agree a form of “Authorised Economic Operator/Mutual Recognition” which Theresa May will probably achieve outside the Single Market and CU. Enough already!

This waffle from the Sunday times has Cruella and Jezza giving their take on the future of the UK once we leave the EU - neither can give a straight answer just clichés and evasions.
May will hold a special cabinet meeting on Thursday to get the whole cabinet to sign off on the plans before a speech publicly setting out her position on Friday, expected to be in Newcastle. Last night she said: “Delivering the best Brexit is about our national future, part of the way we improve the lives of people all over the country. The decisions we make now will shape this country for a generation. If we get them right, Brexit will be the beginning of a bright new chapter in our national story.”
Jeremy Corbyn is expected to back membership of a customs union in a speech on Monday. He will say: “The EU is not the root of all our problems, and leaving it will not solve all our problems. Likewise the EU is not the source of all enlightenment, and leaving it does not inevitably spell doom for our country. Brexit is what we make of it together.”

Keir Starmer referred to a Customs Union Bob not the Customs Union, indefinite article overrides the definite version.

So why does he continue to use the phrase 'customs union' which is just causing confusion? Perhaps it is because, as one Labour spokesman put it to me, it's a phrase that people understand! Perhaps it's because the buggers secretly want to keep the status quo?

Yes, not saying it is "the" customs union, but "a" customs union. Regardless, enough for an almighty row to develop. Like I said before, I wonder whether PM will use Labour position to, in effect, concede the argument and just tell the likes of Redwood to give it a rest. The alternative, to bring the PM down, would almost certainly lead to a General Election and while they might kick and scream, I don't think they would do that.

Come on Mr McS, you used to run a dating agency for cargo and trucks; does being in A customs union, of itself, remove the requirement for fiscal formalities when goods cross an internal border between countries within that union?
