The danger of abbreviations, I am not sure if Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) ever made it to Oxbridge.
I would prefer an ordinary hard working tradesman over a university clone, real world versus old boy network dream world.

Or the son of one? Someone told me Kieth Starmer's father was a toolmaker though I can't confirm it.
(BTW, daughter No1 has Oxbridge PPE so I'm possibly biased!)

Just watched the debate on TV in which Starmer said he'd never use private health care.
My wife asked me if I would pay for private health care if one of our children was seriously ill.
Apparently 'Which child are we talking about' is not the correct answer

Missed the debate. Assume we are no further forward, or backwards from where we started it?

I deliberately missed the debate
but going by the reports it was the usual 'my party has better plans than your party' waffle

Suggest voting for Geoff Lymer- Independent candidate for Dover who has an excellent track record of working for the people of Dover

An interesting dilemma, who should we vote for?
The party who is best for the whole country?
The person we think is the best Leader?
The best local candidate?

Do we know the full list of candidates yet?

The candidates have until tomorrow to submit their paperwork. As far as I’m aware it’s Stephen James (Conservative), Mike Tapp (Labour), Ash Payne (Independent), Penelope James (LibDem) , Howard Cox (Reform), Christine Oliver (Green), Geoff Lymer (Independent ) and one further independent who wouldn’t disclose his name at DDC last Friday!

Yeah, good questions. Another question is: and how do we identify them and should local candidates live in the constituency?
Given that, to me, the 2019 General Election wasn't a GE at all but rather another Brexit referendum, I feel it's been a long time since we had a GE and I've forgotten how I feel about manifestos (not that I've received any yet). My problem is, if (in this case) the Tories come up with a whizzo pledge, I'll be likely to think "marvellous, but why the heck haven't you done it already?"

The Candidate should have a direct link with the constituency and have shown commitment to the area. Should definitely live in the constituency

An extraordinary election when every other western democracy seems to be turning to the 'right' and we're about to elect a group of people who were recently backing Jezza whilst the rest of the country was cheering on loveable Boris and giving him a 'stonking majority' (but now abhor the Conservatives though don't quite know why)

Out of my above list the least important is "local candidate" as it is easy to learn what is important to your constituents and sometimes a fresh eye is beneficial.
Local candidates are more important for area councils as that is where their influence should count.

I agree with Jan on this .I shall vote for Mike Tapp .He is young very enthusiastic .Yes lives outside Dover but he has the best of two worlds. He takes a keen interest in what is going on in Parliament ,in touch with the Labour Leader but still finds time to visit all parts all ,the constituency.Gwyn Prosser was very good when he was in office.mike will appeal to young voters.I have met him several times and believe me he is very sincere.Yes I have changed my politics but the Conservative record is not good...Dover needs some one like Mike.
