Perhaps politicians need to treat the public, and each other, with a bit more respect. Then they might get less abusive tweets
As a guardian reader and tofu eater, I was called the "wokerati" a few days back by a politician.

In today's society with so much on line social media ,things have changed.
It's far better to challenge a parties policies rather than the individual, but often your concerns may be on how that individual may have voted.
Purely on observation the present MP could do well on meeting people , rather than photo shoots to promote herself .
Maybe then individuals and the NO could have a better understanding of each other ?

Not being on that particular site I would not know if any were justified or not, life is too short to follow tweets from those in the public eye. It depends on what is called 'toxic', for example would 'you are a rubbish MP' count or only the more extreme and obviously horrible.
BTW #420 please ignore the 'not' in the last sentence, I was to late to edit it out having changed the words 'not nice' to horrible.

Button wrote:Much less funny is the BBC report that Mrs E received 9.5% of all toxic tweets received by MPs (excluding MPs who received less than 1,000) between 15 March 2022 and 23 April, being exceeded by only 3 others.
Having re-read the article (
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-63330885), I need to correct the above. The 'toxic percentage' is the proportion of the tweets received by each individual MP, Mrs E in this case, that were toxic - in other words, 9.5% of her "mailbag" was toxic. A toxic comment is one that is "rude, disrespectful or unreasonable" and "likely to make someone leave a conversation".
In terms of sheer numbers, Boris received the most toxic tweets, but given that he received so many tweets overall, the toxic ones were just 4% of his total. Backbenchers such as Mrs E received a smaller total, but with a higher toxic percentage - Mrs E's being 4th highest.

Having an MP means that one doesn't have attend parliament oneself in order to question the Home Secretary on a topic of interest, such as the fallout from illegal cross-channel movements. I find this a major advantage because I suspect that my hypertension would fail to cope with:
Mrs E: "Will my right hon. Friend meet me and Kent leaders to discuss the dreadful impact on local services, which they described in a letter to her two weeks ago as being at breaking point?"
Suella: "I thank my hon. Friend for all her work on this issue over several years...I encourage everybody to support the deal we have secured."
Mr Speaker: "The Home Secretary might not like it, but if I may give her some positive advice, when you answer a question you are meant to look to the Chair."
(Actually, it's just occurred to me that Mr Speaker may have the coping mechanism of a really subtle sense of humour.)

Indeed. More creative effort required.

I note that new guidance from the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (Ipsa) has informed MPs that, for the first time, bills for food, drink and festive decorations can all be claimed.
I shall reserve judgement until I find out if I've received my usual invitation.....

"Parliament's expenses watchdog is facing a backlash from MPs after it told them they can claim for the cost of an office Christmas party."
When the 'normal' person is tightening their spending it is time the MPs unnecessary and costly perks were stopped, including subsidised bars and restaurants.

Easy.
0 votes = 0 MPs.
You have the power.
Do you have the courage?

I can't see that working - surely each candidate would have the sense to vote for themself?

All candidates on 1 vote?
That would bust it.

How can he afford legal action? I thought he was claiming poverty.

It appears that the Times is saying that a dossier on further previous sex offences is being sent to the CPS. If anyone has paywall access then they can elaborate.
