AFAIK there is only one location in the district where there is a charging point on DDC land and that is at the leisure centre in Whitfield, and that is privately funded. However it is at least free to use. But unless you need to be in that part of Whitfield for 4 or 5 hours it’s as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike. Leamington Spa on the other hand has at least eight chargers in public car parks in the town centre which are free to use as long as you pay for parking. Canterbury has several free charging points at each of the park and rides.
In fact Dover has a disgraceful shortage of charging points. The ones in St James’ are just about the most expensive in the country. At £2.50 per hour for a maximum 6.6kw supply (a minimum of 38p per unit vs home charging at about 15p), it’s no wonder they are hardly ever used.
Lidl has a fast (50kw) charger which was free until recently, now it’s 23p a unit.
In France, most Auchan hypermarkets have FOC 50kw chargers.
It’s about time DDC bucked up their ideas. Just buying a couple of electric vans for the parking team doesn’t go nearly far enough imo.

Yup. Ran circles round both DDC officers and councillors.

Not surprised. Pulled wool over various eyes. Apparently down to electricity supply! Enough to run AC units, freezers, heaters, lights etc but not to supply low Kw EV points! Total bollocks.

Their stated reason in Kent Online was that "They do not want to encourage long stay parking, to maximise the turnover of spaces".
Goalposts duly moved.

Yup. This is indeed the 'real' reason. They conned DDC councillors and officers, who IF they had talked to electrical engineers and/or one of the national EV charging point providers (as I have), would have realised they were lying.

Although I have voted not one candidate has been a "I really must vote for that candidate".
So in the end I went for the party that had a chance of winning and would do the least damage to the country, even that was not easy with a choice of either far right or far left.

None of them, but a number of them for a variety of reasons have convinced me not to vote for them.
I am now left with my least worst choice; so will bite my tongue, hold my nose and put my cross against their name.

I know all election campaigns can be ugly at times but this one has been full of lies, exaggerations and smears, the pure hatred displayed by some via the internet has been staggering.

I think, JH, GEs have been that way since at least as far back as 1924, when the Daily Mail published the forged Zinoviev letter passed to them by British Intelligence. No internet, no mobile phones, no social media back then; but newspaper publication was enough to get the lie out there, and enough people were suckered to produce a Conservative landslide four days later.
Sure, there's bad stuff on social media, but it's also a good tool for calling out the lies and passing around the exposures. Trouble is when the lies originate in the mainstream media their exposure rarely finds its way back, and the lies stick. (See, e.g., the recent IPSO judgement on the Jewish Chronicle's accuracy-free reporting. Or the more recent IPSO judgement on The Mail on Sunday's lie about Labour planning to abolish capital gains tax exemption on main homes. You'll find nothing in the JC or the MoS about the judgements against them.)
It's enough to make you cynical, and that's healthy. But general distrust is unhealthy, and plays into the hands of the liars.

Just to balance your example I do not think the couple of potentially damaging but definitely scurrilous lies about the Elphickes (both have been on this group and removed) originated in the mainsteam media.

I want a Hung Parliament. It'll be hilarious if we go through all this and we are left (more or less) exactly where we were before the election was called. No party really deserves a majority - in all honesty.

Vote! Vote! Get out and vote!
And here's how to use yours
Should none float your boat...
With Westminster wonky,
Pin a tail on some donkey
And then hit the plonky,
Just get out and vote!
(Please don't vote if it's gone 10pm and you're watching Election on-demand; you will not be charged but your vote won't count.)

Just laughing with partner at photo of Abbott (the FURB) with wrong shoes on and daughter asks who she is?
I say potentially the next person in charge of our security services, she asks what party?
I say have you never heard her speak? She says no.
So I say have you ever heard a JC speech? no.
Have you read any of the manifesto? no.
I ask why is she voting labour, she says because Jeremy cares and is honest.
Can I borrow a shovel and does anyone have any quicklime? I'm thinking I might extend the patio?
