Interesting to see who the local candidates are. Not sure if anybody other Labour will risk their deposit.

Poor old Corbyn will have to bring forward his retirement plans from 2020 to June 9th this year. Labour will have a much smaller parliamentary representation soon but overall it means they have a chance of being in power in 2027 as opposed to 2030.

I wonder which Labour people will throw their hat in the ring locally, Peter Wallace was mentioned but can't see him running up this blind alley.
I guess Sansum will stand for Ukip

The £ has risen with the announcement and the Tories are well ahead in the polls so maybe Mrs May was right. She is a brave woman to call an election when she did not have to.
It will not be confirmed there will be this election until the House of Commons vote tomorrow.

If it does go ahead it doesn't matter who stands Charlie, they have no chance.
Strange timing with all parties working flat out for Local Authority Elections.

Great news, as this should sort the Jeremy Corbyn situation out years ahead of schedule. Clearly, the script says May wins easily and everything is more robust. However, in the bonkers political landscape we now live in, don't be surprised to see some interesting developments.....like revisiting the single market question, for example.

Things could become muddier with those who voted to remain in the EU going with the Lib Dems thus hurting the Labour vote but giving the Tories a free run at increasing their majority. Jezza has stated all along that he would back an early General Election but I don't remember him saying that he would command his MPs to do likewise. Any Labour MP that wants to keep their job a bit longer would be wise to vote against the motion tomorrow.
At this stage we do not know which way the members in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland will vote.

Corbyn is supporting it, apparently. This really is what Labour needs; to be taken to the bottom quickly and ruthlessly so that they can start to rebuild under new leadership. Lib Dems will take stacks of Labour votes, I imagine, so good for them too. Oddly, everyone wins here - right?!
So where will Farage run? Dover and Deal has to be in with a shout, surely? That would put the cat among the seagulls.

Jezza's way out. The public will decide what Labour MP's can't achieve.

I'm not usually a fan of "early" elections, but on this occasion I do applaud the likely saving on police resources. Because, if there are MPs currently whose declarations of expenses at the last election are not 100% tickety-boo, well - come June they'll either no longer be MPs or else will have been elected properly. And clearly it would not be in the public interest to investigate alleged past wrong-doings that no longer have any effect. Sorted - well done that lady!

Police resources almost concluded now. Unlikley that the CPS will drop prosecutions just because another election has taken place.

I wonder if Tony Blair will stand for a seat in Parliament?
Scotland is interesting too. Will Mrs Spurgeon succeed in gaining more seats for her cherished 2nd referendum.

The more I think about it the more cynical things look with parties expected to hold selection meetings for candidates in the middle of local election campaigns. Those chosen are unlikely to be known to the local electorate and are basically names on ballot papers.
The PM has made it clear that the battleground is "Brexit" which will mean more of the unpleasantness of the referendum campaign. Clever move I suppose as it takes the limelight away from the desperate state of the NHS, cuts to schools budgets and benefits for the disabled. The timing is also good as Local Authorities won't start making cuts to public services until the new leaderships have had time to settle in to their posts.
