I'd laugh and say I blame the parents, were it not for the fact that what I look for in horses before I bet on them is - a nice name.

Shadow Brexit secretary Sir Keir Starmer, speaking after retaining his Holborn and St Pancras seat, said: "As a whole movement, we need to reflect on this result and understand it together, but we also have a duty to rebuild, starting now."
No, I don't know what that means either, but to me it sounds different from
Following the defeat by the Scottish National Party's Amy Callaghan, Ms Swinson said: "I still believe that we as a country can be warm and generous inclusive and open and that by working together with our nearest neighbours we can achieve so much more."
For me, I want a party (all of them actually) to stand up for what they believe in and convince me that it's right. The leader is one thing (and a credible position on Brexit another), but I don't like what I see as policy pandering - and frankly I think each of the "top three" Dover candidates have been guilty of this.

Some lessons from yesterday:
1. A man sitting long-time on a sharp fence risks messing up his goolies.
2. Friday 13th following a full moon unleashes mischief and increases the sum total of demons.
3. 44% prefer doughy and tasteless white bread as long as the wrapper's shiny.
4. Littler is bigger; subsequently the future's smaller. Amen.

I think the saddest outcome from this obvious anti Labour result is that so many of their FB followers fail to see what went wrong with their party's policy, they still seem to have a 'not our fault' attitude.

The following exchange was posted on the "Natalie Elphicke" thread but is much more relevant here:

Brexit was the over Riding factor
And of course a lab leader who had a past that many who dislike what terrorists do got to close to
I'm sure Mr Corbyn is an honourable man but associating himself so closely with people who had bombed innocent families didn't do much to help the Labour cause
Of course labour's dithering over the EU didn't help them
I warned it all 2 years ago
All candidates work hard but it's about the national policies and whether people felt C C
Would be any better
Labour now has to refocus
They have a difficult Decision
Do they move away from the membership and left policies
Thus then not having the foot soldiers
To a more middle England
Soft tory type agenda but no foot soldiers
But maybe able to get into number 10
These fights will go on in the internal party which has already surfaced on TV
And will go on for some time

Lol they didn't dither, they promised to get a good deal that worked for most people and then allow the people to vote on it. This who dithering thing was invented by the media to help Boris win by making it about Brexit because the tories had nothing else.
As for associating with terrorists....he condemned the violence by the IRA, he didn't cosey up to them. He worked with members of Sinn Fien to try and bring about peace because he believes, rightly so, that diplomacy ends conflicts.
My own personal view for what its worth is:
Of course the election was going to be about Brexit - anyone who failed to see or think that wasn't paying attention.
The Labour Party took far too long to make their position on Brexit clear and once they did make their mind up it still smacked of "we are going to give you another chance to make the right decision".
Traditional Labour seats in the Midlands, Wales and North England didn't vote Tory because they like Boris, they did so because unlike Labour, he has been unequivocal about "Getting Brexit Done", something they voted for 3 miserable long years ago.
Scottish seats on the other hand were lost to the SNP because Scottish voters want to stay in the EU and Labour wasnt offering that.
This dichotomy put Labour between a rock and a head place
As for the rest of Labour's policies; yes some were too radical for most floating voters, or appeared unachievable, or could well prove too expensive, but these failings are also true of the Tory manifesto once their stance on Brexit is taken away.
Most importantly it is time to stop bickering and to hold the new Tory government under Boris Johnson to account over their promises, starting with Brexit but not ignoring 50,000 extra nurses, 20,000 extra police and 40 new hospitals etc.

KS, as you were one of Beccy Sawbridge's nominators, perhaps you could tell us what went wrong with the Greens' GE strategy?

WGS, I do not think it really matters what their strategy was simply because at the moment they are for the select few or protest voters rather like the LibDems.

With reference to the GREENS strategy for the general election KS is not an exec member of our local party so would not have been directly involved in the strategy plan. He is however a friend of mine from schooldays so kindly agreed to sign my nomination paper... FYI though: With very little money in our pot and a DDC election + GE to think about we made a decision to stand in order to give voters the choice and allow us to showcase our very excellent offering of 'The Green New Deal' which is a central plank of our integrated local and national organising plan .... Hope this helps Beccy x

How can you say Corbyn is a honourable man.. sorry but he has never liked the armed services who defend this country. A man who invites bombers into parliament three weeks after the Brighton bombings... The list goes on.. Is that an honourable man sorry nothing honourable able that man at all.

Thanks Beccy. I asked KS not only as he nominated you, but also because he appears to be a master of perceptive political analysis. Mind you, he's not the only one on here.
Better luck next time.

I have just been going through the posts on here and found that someone called Paul Watkins described me as ... 'Dovers lefty rent a mob Rebecca Sawbridge' when I stood in the 1917 election for the Greens .... I wonder had this person ever actually spoken to me ??

Beccy, you should use that in your next campaign literature. Maybe print up a few boxes of T-shirts, too.
Votes in the bag.

Without a shadow of doubt Beccky is community focused
Always around at community events (not just when elections are called).
We have had the election
Once Labour politicians stop taking each other to court
And settle down and sort out where they want to head the better.
Today I met a life long time union rep who hates Maggie but wanted brexit done
And voted tory this time
He really had lost t faith in labour locally and nationally
