17:1627843Am I the only one who is sick to death of car stereos thumping out at all hours of the day and night?
Surely the Police should be pulling these people up for driving without due care and attention? I mean how can you have your full attention on the road when you cannot hear anything around you?
Also who really needs a stereo that powerful in a car, so why are they even on sale?
Ought they to be banned?

19:0927847Agreed, after a certain time the volume should be adjusted. Certain music, though, needs a bit of thought: ban the dance crap, but please allow me to play my opera, U2, Howlin Wolf etc etc at the right volume...............

06:0627877And when they have the bass on full, you feel them coming along the road as much as hear them.
As you say Ross, they can't concentrate properly with that sound inside their head.
They may of course be doped up, which is becoming a very serious problem.
A very difficult thing to fine/prosecute people for though I'd have thought, unless the Police have decibel meters in their cars.

08:3727903One of the NON 'joys of summer' is listening to the thumping stereos down here on the seafront. Yoofs come along, park up, open their doors as its hot, and blast away to such a deafening volume that the things in ones flat vibrate. Their mates come along in their cars and do the same thing...so an impromptu rock concert follows, the pests remain on the spot for ages too, they dont just drive idly by. These flats produce a sound cauldron anyway so the effect is very strong. Im afraid though in the realms of the misdemeanour this comes a long way down the scale in terms of police action. Never have I seen anyone asked to stop by the long arm of the law.

09:2227906It is a pain when it intrudes so. There are a few "sound cauldrons" in Dover, the acoustics are unique, I think. Our house is in the middle of a sound vortex!!

20:3427931Terry you are right they don't, however, enforcing a 20mph speed limit on all roads in town would go a long way to reducing that particular noise nuisance.
Seriously, though why are such powerful car stereos on sale? couldn't they be restricted?
It is the same with the stereo in your home, honestly who needs more than 25W RMS anyway in a flat or house?

05:4627935Isn't that a bit like saying that cars shouldn't be able to go faster than 70 miles an hour because that's the speed limit and anything over that is deemed dangerous ? Anything over certain decibels could also be deemed dangerous - for the people hearing it and those playing it that loud.
It should be up to us to be considerate (on many issues) and some people are, but many are not.

07:3927951Roger the esteemed programme Top Gear not only poopoohs 70mph but encourages people to drive much faster by glorifying speed. This I imagine is the same principle that applies to stereo...mine is bigger than yours( and louder!)
That programme rubbishes the humble Morris Minor churning out its 70mph and their whole approach is macho power based. No doubt they cover the stereo system too in their programmes. People with these stereos are not actually listening to the music but are glorifying in the little bit of half baked attention they get as they pass by.

08:1027957I have to agree with Ross about these, are we getting old?
They must be a distraction to a driver as well as a pain in the neck for the rest of us.
Not keen on new legislation over it though as I suspect that the police might have enough powers now with existing laws to clamp down on individuals.
Now, now PaulB - dont have a go at my favourite tv programme, its great entertainment....

11:0527969i think that barry is right on this, there are existing laws to deal with this nuisance.
the will is not there to enforce a clamp down.

11:0827971Ia have mentioned 3 times, what should be high priority?
A rape, murder, or a car stereo
