Are the two piers surrounding the marina going to be linked?
It looks to me that there should be a movable walkway/gangway so that you can walk all the way around instead of up and back both.

No there won't be, the public can only access so far around the marina curve. Beyond that is lifeboat station and birth for fuel barge, tugs etc.

This was mooted some time again by a member of the Dover Society when the plans first came out and as a pedestrian friendly idea to enable circumnavigation of the new Marina, but don't think anything came of it. It would be a great way for locals to see and enjoy the newly developed Western Docks complex as well as showing that Dovorians have not been forgotten, especially after the loss of the so well used Prince of Wales pier.

Reports from the waterfront tell us that the Bascule Bridge that will span the new Wellington Navigation Channel & Lock will be installed shortly. This will eventually provide access from the currently blocked off Esplanade at the western end of Marine Parade to Union Street and the Western Docks Development area past the Clock Tower.
In preparation for the heavy lift involved BALDWINS Crane hire have been delivering truck loads of 'meccano' type parts to put the cranes together prior to the lift taking place.

Must be costing a fortune. I believe those heavy lift cranes don't come cheap.

Latest news appears to be that the Bascule Bridge will now arrive midweek. The BALDWINS cranes now in place awaiting the arrival.
In the meantime the sun still sets every night, so here is a couple of reflections on the DWDR works

Perhaps someone can help me. Is the channel from the Wellington to the Marina going to have a single or a double lock gate? If the former it means that the Wellington, as now, is only going to be accessible a couple of hours either side of high tide.

As the arrival and installation of the DWDR bascule bridge approaches, today it seems that one of the two Baldwin Cranes is being dismantled and a larger heavy lift crane is being installed.
Only had my iphone with me so not the best shots
This looks like a Liebherr 1250te class mobile crane. Two jibs. Powerful stuff.
Other bits being dismantled and trucked away.

The eagerly awaited bascule bridge that will span the new Wellington Navigation Cut and lock arrived from Ghent courtesy of Dutch tug 'Catharina 11' on 11 December 2018.
The following day (12th) the recently arrived on site BALDWINS Heavy Lift Crane was in situ to lift the bridge into place, watched by local enthusiast and others from as far away as Hull together with local press in attendance.
The crane required sets of counter-balance weights before the lift could begin
Further bridge supports remain on shore ready to be lifted into position

The construction of the bascule bridge over the Wellington Navigation Channel continued this week.
The two towers that support the bridge lift mechanism were lowered and fixed into place on the western side of the navigation channel. The new Marina Control Office is beyond.
as further work was undertaken at the top of each tower
The arms that will attach to the towers and will lift the bridge are laying ready
Wellington Navigation Channel. The bascule bridge towers can be seen but the bascule bridge itself is obscured from this view by the temporary road bridge (coloured blue) that currently carries work traffic.
Eadon Consulting Engineering, design consultants, website gives further detail of the DWDR project undertaken, including the nature and design of the lock gates.

There is an excellent Port of Dover video published on youtube on 11 January 2019 showing the installation of the new bascule bridge over the Wellington Navigation Channel. It features shots from the ground as well as drone footage. Well worth a view.

Preparations for the installation of the new lockgates in the Wellington Cut are well under way.
Baldwins delivered parts of the heavy lift crane on site today
The outer lockgates (new marina side) are arriving in two deliveries, the first today on two heavy load lorries from 'up north' have been moved to the eastern side of the lock. This night-time photo shows them being taken along Townwall Street. All the way to the Eastern Docks roundabout and back along Townwall Street and into Marine Parade and construction site via Wellesley Road.
February will see the arrival and installation of the other set of gates at the Wellington Dock end.
