The public transport links all point to Buckland mill as being the handiest site.

I think DDC need to decide what they are actually proposing. Is it a leisure centre for Dover Town or a leisure centre for the district? Personally I think it should be a centre for Dover Town within Dover Town. Usually when DDC try to solve problems with a one fits all, district wide solution, they fail spectacularly.

If the council want what is the most beneficial to the whole district as well as the town then they will choose to build the super sized pool up at Whitfield that will bring a lot of money into the area.
As it will of so much benefit everyone locally they will probably reject the idea and build a glorified paddling pool.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

They closed the paddling pool because it was too expensive, maybe we'll get a new duck pond

It's the first time I have heard a suggestion it's a Centre for the whole district, in which case it suspect it would make little difference anyway to people in Deal and Sandwich whether they drive to Whitfield or Dover. For public transport users from there it may well be more convenient to travel to Dover. Moreover Sandwich and Deal already have Leisure Centres, which could be expanded - and no doubt they would not be happy if Dover, which would I imagine include Whitfield in their view, had the District's Cente.
I have seen a lot of selfishness on another social medium from people who drive who clearly could not care less about people who do not.
I have been on both sides of the fence on this one. I used to live in Whitfield and thought nothing of the ten minute drive to the Leisure Centre. I would not have wanted the Centre to be built at Whitfield even then, simply to knock five minutes off my journey. People need to consider the good of all people in town.

What will no doubt be a major factor in the decision is the proposed
Bus Rapid Transit System from Whitfield to Dover via a new road across the fields and then past Guston and down Castle Hill - probably both proposals could be used to justify each other.

Unless I am mistaken that looks like an update of a plan issued about 5 years ago but with current individual businesses mentioned.

Sounds hideous, a lose-lose situation, and another heartbteaking step towards raping the beautiful farm where I grew up -Lenacre Court, at Whitfield.
Where does the environment feature in all this? It carries as much weight as public opinion, i.e. none.
DDC continues to treat our countryside as if it were an infinite resource, for marginal economic gain, while the town has more and more amenities sucked out of it, DTIZ excepted.

I don't think most Dovorians believe a single word that comes out of the mouths of the detached pen pushers in Whitfield, mustn't forget to tip my hat to them for allowing one person to have a say though.

I am sure I read somewhere that DDC had a surplus of £2M. Perhaps they could stretch the budget and consult two people out of the potential 100,000 that it could potentially affect.

Doubt the issue is about funding as DDC don't own any land at Buckland or Whitfield to build a centre on.

When they continually squander money its no wonder they cant make ends meet, I pads, giant screen tv, wind turbine, staff car park, wasted consultants fees if you ask around the country DDC is thought of as a joke, no they are not doing a good job under the circumstances.
We are each entitled to our opinion but mine is the same as almost everyone I speak too

If you leave it in the past and don't address it the same mistakes occur over and over again.

Wherever I have lived everyone thinks they have the worst council in the country, I find DDC about average with clear mistakes made because humans are involved but overall when I contact them over anything I do get a prompt reply. Things are moving forward in the district despite planning decisions that go against the wishes of the people.
