Does anyone know what percentage of citizens actually ever use the leisure centre? My feeling is that it is probably in single figures.

Looking at google maps it shows how close the site is to Melbourne Avenue.

It looks to me that a proper path should be put in to link up with new Leisure Centre. (And then improve the footpath down to Green Lane).

With lidl and the new leisure centre it's increasing traffic flow and pollution on up Melbourne also coming to up to the school with its own traffic flow...its all going to be a nightmare for everyone and residents choked out of their homes with high levels of fumes and lead being omitted. The increase is cars is making it more dangerous for school kids at DDC leaving the school already how much more? Good on having all these shopes etc up here but residents are paying the price.

Aycliff has less traffic than what passes up here and they not so close to it all most of the houses. Its a bloody nightmare here and will get worse and the kids lives at the school will be put at more risk of crossing the roads, mark me what I say. Mrs Hamilton wanted a crossing because one lad was hit and there was not much cars then. Some Cllrs need to look at the DDC children trying to get across the traffic because the heads after Mrs Hamilton are not botherd and I am sure they too will wait for the loss of a youngster until something is done but one too much of a loss. That all Ill say.

Not wishing to turn this into a discussion about pollution, or a dirty air contest, but it appears that emissions from ferries and other shipping causes all sorts of pollution, so Aycliffe suffers doubly with the huge number of lorries driving past all day and night, half of which are going uphill so kicking out loads of extra pollutants due to unburnt fuel. The area near Archers Court (yes, I live in the past) suffers from an increasing number of cars using Melbourne Avenue, and at school start and kick out the air up there must be of very low quality too. There is no simple solution to this, because even if you stopped motor vehicles from travelling all the way along Melbourne Avenue, the air pollution would move to the 'village' of whitfield, and the residents would have none of it so Melbourne would be opened up again.
Sorry Amberleaf and Brian, you'll just have to keep coughing.

Good to see the Leisure Centre build progressing well and especially heartening and praiseworthy that the main contractor ran open days so residents could see and discuss progress as well as their offer of work experience opportunities to local young people.
(there is perhaps a lesson to be learnt here for others spending public money in the area...)

The new company takes over the Leisure Centre this Sunday coming, replacing it as 'Places for people' it is now called. They will be moving to new build early next year.

Most people working in the leisure industry accept that they will be working when others are at leisure. That’s part of the job.
