17:3665703Port privatisation is a no-goer. The ferry operators at Dover are all in financial difficulties, competition among them and from Channel Tunnel makes it impossible to increase the tickets without losing many customers to the tunnel. So the tickets are too cheap!
Who would dream of spending 300 million pounds to buy Dover Port - or worse still 800 million pounds, knowing they could not increase the prices of the tickets as otherwise the ferry companies would all go bankrupt? No-one!
For a buyer to get all that money back plua a profit AND a constant contribution to a Dover charitable fund, the ticket prices would have to rise considerably!

20:1765746I have already said the cost of the port should be around £1.5 Billion up £2billion to any buyer but more on this later.

21:0865755My concerns are ,to use a poetic phrase, more romantic .I feel that as it was set up as a trust by your (not mine as I am from Polish aristrocracy descent, much to Alex D annoyance) forefathers we should respect that and keep it as it is. So please do not sell off the family silver.

22:0265764The Polish royal family were at one time the largest in Europe my fathers family originated from Chotmowa ( pro: hot mow ver) and before the Germans invaded we had 14 country houses and estates the largest being in Warsaw .The land (which we still own)is occupied by the Daewoo car company. But what the heck life goes on and now five of us left and as all my paternal uncles only sired girls or were never married or were killed in the war and as my older brother kicked the bucket at 42yrs old I am left with the burden of responsiblity.

22:4465777So, dear sir, how should we formally address you? Marek seems a bit tame when you've got a grand title to play around with.

01:2065799Socialist left winger Twathead seems OK to me.Never was one for titles even had it taken off my driving licence etc. There's nothing worse than a copper pulling you over then taking the **** as he puts your details in his black book.

07:4465818The port privatisation is proceeding.
The opportunity to hear our MP speak on the subject in this way is unique.
It will be interesting to see how many of the people of Dover care enough to listen........

08:0465819Sounds like it's hardly worth attending as a done deal makes a mockery of any discussion surely?

12:1765863David - sometimes it isn't a matter of caring or otherwise - simply one of working hard at a distance and the time factor! That shouldn't mean we don't care or should not be represented by the people we voted for and pay for.
