Not sure , I am under the impression the last one was a tenant. But my point was the general appearance which didn't need money just time and effort (which appeared lacking).
By no means an easy job as you are well aware. But with its location, size and potential catchment area its a shame that it couldn't be made a profitable asset.
The Marquis has had a huge investment and through that has attracted Michelin star chefs and has had some great success. Though last time there, the latest owners (GSE group) had those trifold advertisers on the tables advertising the Hythe Imperial Xmas function! Not what I would expect at a fine dining establishment, so I'll be interested to see how they progress.

I now hear a nearby business is looking to take over the site of the Bull, which could be the "death" of the pub.

I do hope not. One of the oldest pubs in Dover and a fine watering hole. Many happy memories.

Sorry to say this "But use it or lose it"BUT I do not drink so cannot help in this matter but it is a great pity to see all the great small character pubs which the UK is well known for disappearing this way.

Remember many years past when a national Journalist visited Dover to do a vox pop on remarks by the Conservative Minister Nicholas Ridley relating to the EU.
When asked by the journalist what the local man thought of Nicholas Ridley , the answer came back “I’ve never drunk in that pub mate “.

When we still had an army based in Dover I recall going upstairs into the wine bar in Church st
One side of the bar was all army other side locals
As we left chairs flew everywhere the usual Saturday night fights Lol
I saw the same in the Telegraph ? In Deal
I recall as a very young guy going into the fountain
And meeting Liz for the first time
That was quite an experience Lol

Was wondering why The Louis was shut last night. And also tonight. Apparently not the only place shut this weekend because of covid.

The Louis is shut due to a combination of deep cleaning and staff shortages due to covid
