'The scheme was approved by KCC in 2021'.
In a statement, a KCC spokesman said: '...due to the lead time for electric vehicles they will not be available at the start of the service...'
Not that I give a fig for this project, but does anyone know what the lead time is for an electric bus?
3+ years seems rather long and, given the trumpets were originally booked for autumn 2023, presumably ~2 years was then considered enough.

The way Government and Councils waste money on grandiose schemes like this bus idea and then claim they have nothing spare for what is really needed for the majority is what p****s off most of us tax payers.

What angers me is that they take absolutely no notice of the residents views. They make plans for the future ie the Local Development Plan but then fail to take account of the fact that things can change and plans therefore need to be revised/reviewed. COVID had a huge impact on how people work and commute. This crucial factor should have been considered before this plan was implemented. Additionally, making a bus route directly into the town doesn’t change the fact that there is precious little shopping in Dover. I can’t see how it will impact on tourism either. But of course I’m just a stupid resident so obviously the powers in charge will simply dismiss my concerns and opinions.

It has nothing to do with helping Dover, tourism, its residents, Etc. It doesn't even have much to do with the potential new residents of the new rabbit hutches on the hill!
But until people start to realise this then nothing can change

The problem with Dover FastTrack is that it is using cutting-edge technology which has never been tried out anywhere else so delays were almost inevitable.

Bob there are UK coach builders, but sadly no UK based battery/drive chain manufacturers. In fact almost all commercial vehicle electric drive chains currently come from a tiny number of manufacturers in the PRC; one of which is BYD.
The biggest supplier of buses in recent years to UK fleets is Wrightbus (http://www.wrightbus.com) who supply diesel, hydrogen or electric options; for the latter they buy in the drive trains & chassis as a completed unit from the likes of BYD. For BYD to be in the running for this contract suggest they are undercutting Wrightbus by a reasonable margin...

Yup. I know Ross. 'Our' coachbuilding is going much the same way as Germany's pv industry.
At least these big boys won't need a 'special' fast route!

Although requiring in excess of 10MWh for each trip to France it will be interesting to see where they are going to get the power from without all the lights of Dover dimming each time they dock!
Is the local grid up to it?????

My son sent me this from Trieste. Updates on buses on EPaper displays.
Hardly any power used and make TfLs's dot-matrix displays look primative.
Meanwhile at Pencester (for example) we have exactly zero information.

The bus stop at Tesco's has a similar display. However, it appears to show timetable times not actual running times.

Interesting. I was on the top deck of the No12 bus today (does anyone else try to bag the front seat on top so they can pretend they're driving?) when I noticed it mounted above the usual timetables. It showed the next four buses arriving and 'live' arrival times.
Perhaps it's there because it's a DoverFastrack stop but it's showing other services right now.
No sign of anything like it at Canterbury bus station which (as I've said before) is no longer issuing the small folding timetables leaving one relying on the App and Canterbury's non existant 'phone signal.
Perhaps some of our bus services stand a chance of getting into the 21st century BEFORE they are all cancelled?
