Yes Jan she has 'green fingers" but it usually washes off! I do my best to help too as she said it's a joint effort....so I bought her some embrocation.
I helped her out when she started struggling with the watering cans by buying her some smaller ones which she can manage OK! It takes more journeys to and fro the tap which means more time spent in the garden, so I solved this problem by getting her a headlight so she can work in the dark too!
Ouch! I forgot she can read too...........
Paul M, They call it duck l'orange in posh places (River) as it has an orange stuffed up it's aris...........

Been putting out bowls of fresh water over the last few days for the birds to cool themselves down in but no takers despite them being busy on the feeders.
This has suddenly sprung up out of nowhere and I know I didn't plant it.

Wild yellow horned poppy i think, if it is the seeds get blown everywhere, they will spread if you leave the seed heads on and they flower for months.

Probably from bird droppings Howard so look out for some penguins as they look like Icelandic Poppies! Leave them to seed themselves and you could have a larger patch in coming years.
They both look similar Reginald so either/both of us could be right.......they are definitely poppies. The seeds of the large red ones are not to be sniffed at Howard unless you want to develop strange thoughts!

OK Reginald but I still prefer my Penguin association.

Managed to mow the grass earlier which is now a strange off white colour, can't be long before a hose pipe ban comes in.

That rain we had earlier done just enough to moisten the soil and no more, surprised that my Poundland Rose has flowered much earlier this year - this was taken ten days ago.

Now, I know some people will think that progressive rock has a lot to answer for but, as a Peter Gabriel-era Genesis fan, I would suggest that all gardeners take a few minutes (well, eight actually) to have a listen to 'The Return of the Giant Hogweed' (on the LP Nursery Cryme). For, some 45 years ago, Gabriel predicted the takeover, but also the solution: 'Strike by night / They are defenceless / They all need the sun to photosensitise their venom'. Rock on.

I've had roses out for some time on a couple of bushes. Others look as though they are about to bloom. Mowing the lawn today was hot and dusty work, especially where the @@@@@@@@ ants have been busy (fill in your own word in the @ space!).

My sole Rose bush is not in a very good position so normally starts to flower mid June, I left the grass cutting for another day. Much better in this heat to sit outside and enjoy the birds visiting for their nosh.

Post 72: things may have changed under austerity, but it used to be the case that Japanese Knotweed was a nice little earner for businesses, 150% of the cost coming back as land remediation relief.

I missed the bluebells and primroses this year but a belated picture of daffodils:
In the garden yesterday....dull but cheery:
I then spotted a sparrow fledgling perch on an empty water bowl. I was able to top it up with the bird in situ and then take a close up photo.......trusting or what?

Lovely picture of the sparrow and the garden looks as lovely as always Bob.
For years the local birds refused to use my stone birdbath, I moved it last year thinking I might put a couple of pots in it, no chance as at long last the birds started using it.
