Or so it should be but every time I go out to remove weeds from one part and plant bulbs in another the fork won't go into the ground. So little rain for such a seemingly long time has the left the soil rock hard and there has already been talk of a hose pipe ban if more rain doesn't arrive in early summer.

True I am out there most days, watering is a must at this time of the year,I have to keep sitting to weed etc so takes me a long time, and very cold in the mornings.

That bit of rain we had over the weekend didn't have much if any effect, tried again earlier as it was such pleasant afternoon but the ground still like concrete.

It is lawns that need water ,on the meter but I try to do them four or five times a week.

I never water the grass, always seems to recover even after a drought. Someone once said to me that nobody waters the hills and they look green enough.

That's bowling greens Vic!
You'd need a Jack hammer to get our lawn flat, though I do know a chap who cuts his grass every evening throughout the summer and spends most of the day watching out for blackbirds ripping holes in it.
A couple of years ago he was telling me he had had a badger in overnight, i struggled to keep a straight face and offer suitable platitudes!

We have had a few drops of rain with more forecast for later but doesn't seem to have had much effect on the ground. If today is like yesterday I will give the garden a miss anyway, a bit too cold for me.

My bit of garden in the front is ok when the sun is out but go out back and it is bitterly cold in that wind. We badly need some rain, my water butt is going down fast not what I expect at this time of year.

We keep being promised showers but they are very light and very few so no chance of planting anything. Managed to get the grass cut today just in case the Bank Holiday brings its usual rain.

Here's the radar piccie Howard. Rain coming as forecast. Though I suspect washing the car this morning helped?

A time to rejoice Bob has brought us the precipitation he promised. Will have to contact the film company that planned to do a remake of the "Grapes of Wrath" with my garden as the dust bowl and me playing the Henry Fonda part.
