As soon as someone suggested that the heatwave would go on until October the sunny weather disappeared.

Those be the dead bits Howard. Grass starts to die at around 4-6wks without water, it does so in patches due to various factors, like strain of grass, sub soil, level of drainage.
The money I have lost this year in not being able to cut grass I shall recoup in the autumn re-seeding and re-turfing lawns

Maybe time to get a bit of exercise with the rake and scarify the lawn.

Not for a while Jan, managed to crack a rib and just lifting a kettle is an ordeal. Very frustrating as the grass and weeds have shot up over the last fortnight.

Luckily I have never cracked a rib but have known plenty who have, very painful so I wish you a speedy recovery.

I seem to be inundated with slugs, I don't know whether they have developed an immunity to the pellets or simply decided that those little blue sweets are not good for them.

I keep reading about people being plagued by wasps all Summer with many complaining of them nesting in their homes but I can't remember seeing even one in the garden, had a couple in the house that I dealt with summarily though.

Didn’t see any until the last week or so, now the fruit is starting to ripen on the trees, they have started to appear with a vengeance.

Just make faces at it Jan, that should scare it enough!
The plants just don’t want to conform to seasonal changes this year.......pics taken today mid morning!

It looks like the birds think it’s spring too! My Granddaughter found this fledgling slumped on the path outside my house on Monday.
With a little bit of TLC and overnight shelter it was happily wandering around the garden the next morning,
Reunited with it’s family the same afternoon!

I managed to cut the back lawn this morning and was pleasantly surprised how well it cut despite the recent wet weather and the moisture left by last nights frost. November rainfall so far this year has been 5.01 inches!
I just hope that this will be the last cut needed this year. Next job is to put up the outside Christmas lights before the forecasted bad weather arrives.

I caught this Great Spotted Wood pecker at the the fat balls yesterday morning. I only had the ‘phone camera to hand so not the best shot but I thought it was worth sharing.
What a miserable wet morning today.......it can only get better!

Lovely bird you are so lucky to get a visitor like that.
Yesterday I put some cat biscuits that the cats refused to eat out for the local magpies on my feeder. A local dog, that the owner never has on a lead when walking it
, came up my drive and by stretching up managed to scoff most of them.

Not seen anything as exotic as that in my garden, inundated with collared doves at present with 16 dining at one sitting a few days back.

Look on the bright side Jan, perhaps the dog done you a favour as magpies tend to attack the song birds!
There seems to be a large population of doves everywhere this year Howard. At least they seem to be among the best behaved when feeding; unlike the blackbirds and robins that seem to chase off other birds even when there’s plenty of food to go round!

I find collared doves and wood pigeons the best behaved regarding feeding, both leave sparrows alone when they join in .
