More information.Medway charges £43.That is pick up breakfast coffee /tea .Lunch and .activities .Return travel home .You can see where the £40 comes from .I suppose if you cannot get public transport that’s not so bad .Taxis are not cheap.

Unless things have changed I always thought of Riverside as more of a drop in centre rather than a day centre. As they no longer open on a Saturday I think their page needs amending.

Wasn't that long ago that it was open until 3 pm on Saturday and I think there was tentative talk of it opening on Sundays(Ken will say if I am right or wrong there). The Knit and natter group was free but recently brought in a small charge. What will happen in future if this admission charge comes in and people that only want to utilise one or two of the services/activities stop coming?

Previously all users had free access and the Centre made it's money from the snacks etc that they bought, however a charge of £1 per person for the knit and natter group was introduced against Karen's wishes. The Centre closed on Saturdays due to staff suspension( not Karen ), and staff sickness. Once the member of staff has her suspension lifted, there is no reason the Centre can't open.

I am a little confused, but hope things are resolved.
I only mentioned the manager because Ken made it part of his original report.
What ever happens it has to be in the interest of the centre

I don't know what happened at the meeting on the 17th of last month but I was in the Riverside Centre this week and the atmosphere has definitely changed for the worst. I was glad not to have to stick around.

I believe it's November. I am no longer 'in the loop', my wife was paid off after 30 years service, her sister in law ( a chef) paid off after 16 years service and our niece is currently suspended for speaking her mind. Our daughter with 20 years service fears for her job.
All of our relatives were interviewed and chosen for their ability by previous trustees not Karen.

Sounds like a fresh start is needed with a new set of trustees.

Lets be honest it sounds more like a witch hunt, time to get rid of those who know the existing set-up or can read between the lines about any future changes.
The real reason has yet to be established but this proves it can sometimes be unwise to work with family or friends however they are chosen in the first place. So sorry to hear about Karen she worked so hard for the Riverside Centre.
As an aside I have been kicked out of Dover for Disgruntled Dovorians FB group with no explanation given even though I was previously an admin, I suspect to do with my posts on this subject.

Jan - I'm sorry to hear that you have been turfed out of Dover for Disgruntleds. These types of action are always self defeating and almost invariably linked to the fact that someone wanted some childish sort of revenge for something that you've posted. Facts or rational argument never enter into it.

Perhaps you're too disgruntled, JH, or maybe not disgruntled enough. History teaches that disgruntlement, like positive criticism, is a dish best served with just the right mix of flattery, condescension and self-deprecation. Otherwise you may be hanged by the neck until you cheer up, which would leave your gruntles severely undis'd. Perhaps immediate regruntlement is a safer option.

WGS that made me laugh.
They have actually done me a favour as it was no longer the interesting group it used to be full of useful local information, it has made me realise how much time I wasted reading about visiting cats or various car related misdemeanours.

Most of the Dover and Deal FB pages are full of people who think that any cat comes up to their door is ill or half starved, some even take them to a vet and leave them there whilst the owners are beside themselves with worry. One owner spotted her moggy in a picture scoffing away in someone's house, it transpired that it was just greedy and known to many people who were feeding it.

I readily admit to knowing nothing about this topic, never having been in the Riverside Centre. But, please, Mr or Mrs EvenHanded, why can't you post under a real name and add some credibility to your comments?
