Just to clarify, are you suggesting that there will be a bun-fight at 18:05 hrs?

Yet another Pinteresque post from Sue, maybe someone who attended the meeting will furnish us with what was said and how the future of the centre pans out?

I will say they have got finances on an even keel More Trustees on board ..Nothing was disclosed re any staff who are no longer working there. Its all data protection as it should be.Saturday opening is not viable no grant from DTC .With cuts from KCC any Trustee board will have to budget carefully.Usual people who wanted to critise no idea how to address a Chairman.Once I got up and addressed the meeting to clarify a few things the meeting continued ok .
One chap said he was going to say how you should address a meeting but realised I had covered the procedure.I think I have learnt about debate .i received a very warm reception by all .I went there in a private capacity.I work for another charity and there are lines not to be crossed.

Glad they knew how to speak after you spoke Sue lol
More importantly it appears the centre is moving forward as there didn't appear to be any of the negative feedback from where this post started months ago?

Seeing as how they are connected I am going to say/ask something about the Age Concern shop in Dover High Street. I suppose the first thing to ask is why five staff left and two were asked to leave, making a total of seven in all. It seems, so I am told, that all were asked to fill in forms for their past to be checked going back many many years. Yes, just to work in a charity store. The store is now a disgrace and difficult to walk around in and, it seems, a very unpleasant place to work in. Their lovely new till has also vanished for some reason so no more receipts. This raises the question of if this is actually legal. How on earth do they tally up takings at the end of the day. Seems there is now no longer a delivery or collection driver since the manager resigned. It is all such a shame and will not be a surprise to see the store close at some stage. What then for Riverside. It is unlikely that DDC will allow the centre to close as it is used by locals. What of their debts? I recall years ago when the centre was well run, staff happy and the store not doing too badly. Will they be getting a new manager? The last meeting at the centre was a complete farce. I believe the whole setup needs new blood, someone who really knows retail. Doubt it will happen though.

I thought that CRB checks only applied to those working with children or vulnerable adults, as regards the Riverside Centre we were told that income from the shop was only a small proportion of the money required to keep the centre going.

I disagree with Mr Care the AGM was not a farce .I gather that the Chairman holds regular meeting s which is open for attendees to ask questions .

Mr Care, I wonder if Age UK have at last taken charge rather than the shop being independent from them.
I used to be a shop volunteer and was there for about seven years, I left about six years ago when I found the atmosphere was changing because of one troublemaker's desire to try and run the place, luckily she did not succeed but unfortunately had quite a bit of influence. The old till we used never gave receipts, relying on the honesty of the the volunteers, cashing up was done at the end of the day with no problems at all.
I suspect that those who left simply did not like the new regime, many would have been used to the way things were, some having been there for a long time.

No. Age UK have not decided to take charge. The person to whom you refer is in fact still there. At the moment that person is indeed running the store in a round about way, as before. The store needed a new till to bring the store up to date a bit more. It was removed at a whim it seems by your old adversary to whom you refer. Those who left, and I have spoken to two of them, did so because of the dreadful atmosphere which had been building up for a very long time (you will know why). The application form was the final straw. Oh, and yes, it did include a possible police check. Ludicrous? Indeed, but better take it up with whoever dreamed it up at Riverside.
