What we know so far is that the centre has been running at a loss and the plan is to charge £40 per person per day for using it. Logically there is likely to be no takers so the centre would then close which would leave a well kept building in an attractive riverside location standing idle.
Who would benefit from it?

Who actually owns the building then, if it gets closed down, will it be sold so someone can get rich from it?

Good question, I read elsewhere that it was owned jointly by Age UK and DDC but cannot find anything on the DDC website having looked for Asset register and property.

Issued to all 'inmates today'
Dear Member,
There are numerous stories from a variety of sources concerning the Riverside Centre.
As you are all aware there have been difficulties over the past 3 months with respect to staffing levels. This is a combination of Staff Leaving ,staff sickness, staff holidays and other issues that remain ongoing. We hope that this situation will soon be resolved and that the Riverside Centre will continue to provide a much needed and loved service.
The Riverside Centre remains a viable and vibrant Age UK Centre and as such we want to continue to provide the best facilities in order for you to enjoy your time spent there. To date the hairdressing/chiropody room has been refurbished and the front of the building redecorated.
The recent questionnaire completed at the Centre indicated that many of you were unhappy with the toilet facilities As a result the Disabled and men's toilets have been rejuvenated and now comply with current Government guidelines and are much cleaner and user friendly. The plan is to revamp the ladies toilets next.
In spite of what's been reported or said there are NO plans to close the Centre.
Contrary to some reports there is no plans in the foreseeable future to charge you to attend the Riverside Centre. The charges currently in place remain for transport , catering and other ancillary services such as chiropody and hairdressing.
We will provide you with a report of the activity of the centre over the past year including financial reports at our next AGM. The last AGM was held in October 2017 so our next one will be held around the same month and we will inform you of the actual date nearer the time.
The trustees hope that this short update will emphasise the future viability of the Riverside Centre and thank you for your continuing support.
The Trustees.

Let's hope that the future of the centre is secure but that statement was carefully compiled to avoid giving too many straight answers, furthermore I know nothing of numerous stories, just the one on here.

There is much more to this story than is being portrayed, which may or may not finally come to the surface. The centre has been badly managed for a number of years by various people, and not just those who are being blamed. To name names the way it is being done here is entirely wrong, as though these people are solely to blame. They are not. It has been a joint effort. Perhaps the truth will one day come out. Yes, it is posted again, because there is so much "fake" news being put about regarding this issue.

Quite a lot of info so far of course only those involved would know the full story
This should be about the survival of the centre
And how that can be achieved
ALL POSTS ARE MY OWN PERSONAL VIEWS

There seems to be a passive acceptance of the statement from the trustees as to the future of the centre and no questions asked. The term "no plans to etc " is mostly used by politicians prior to an election then reneged upon later when the fuss has died down. Ken gave a date for the next AGM which we are now told will be in October(maybe they didn't want many people turning up to ask questions)? There was no denial of suspending the Manager for "whistle blowing" or the alleged overspending. The lack of tendering was not mentioned which may mean nothing if the contracts were small individually of course.

I agree Howard that response was bit of a nothing when you read it properly and although welcome did not really answer any of the more serious points. I hope the AGM will clear the air but I will not bother to go as I suspect it will be waste of time if it is anything like those I attended in the past.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

I don't know what world some people are living in. Do you honestly think that the Directors of a Charity would respond to accusations on a forum like this? If the accusations are correct, fair enough, but if they are not - litigation looms I suspect.
