SUE;
I'm sure there will be some people out to make a point(and had the council handled things in a better way, none of this would have been possible)
but there are others that have no choice but to have the unsightly bins in there front (see howards posts)
i would not drag the empty bin through my home to the rear of the property and back every fortnight!!!!!
some have no option but to have the bins where they are.

We have done just that they are now an eyesore at the back instead of at the front.
We could only do that because my front basement steps have been adapted, I have trouble with stairs, most houses near me have steep steps so they have no choice but to leave the bins in the front.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

Roger Walkden I'm afraid you've been misinformed about which type of bins you can have. The bins being an eyesore to your property is not a valid reason for refusal and the second best option of having a black box and two purple bags will not be available to anybody at all.
This means that you either have to have them or refuse to have them and have no choice but to dispose of any waste yourself at the local tip.
This is, of course, self defeating as all waste that goes into a householders bin bag will end up going into a big skip unsorted and not being recycled.
Madness.

That is the case Philip, you can't just say you don't want them because you don't like them. There has to be a practical reason to have the alternative instead.

Hmmmn, so the fact that having two great ugly plastic bins and other smaller bins in my front garden making it look like Steptoe's yard is not a good, practical reason?
Walking along my road today reminds me of those old wartime blitz photographs. Not, of course, damage to building through shelling or air raids but the general depressed and austere setting. They have made everything look gloomy and generally rather depressed and grey.
Of course this coincides with the general economic outlook which is more than just gloomy it's positively suicidal and these bins reflect this gloom.
What's worse is that people have no say in the matter. The jobsworth from Veolia will come round with his clipboard and say " Oim sorry siiir but you are neow under strict hoorders to comply with policy these ARE the rules and you must obey".
What a horrible country this is turning into. I hate it.
Mine was not taken this morning put out the bin man took out bags put on ground and drove away will leave out till next collection

that's a strange one, the opposite for me they looked at the bags in the bin then unloaded the bin into the truck.
did you get the right day, recycling and general are alternate weeks.

I've looked back on my postings and I cannot find one where I said that if you don't like the wheelies you can have the alternative; I said if you don't have either, you will have to dispose of the waste yourself.
If your front garden is not big enough for the wheelies, you can have the smaller black bin and two purple bags (per week).

Hi Roger, in post number 37 you ended with "Phillip, you can refuse the wheelie bins and be given the alternative (black box and 2 purple bags), but if neither is acceptable to you, will have to dispose of it (responsibly) yourself."
This was an answer in response to my question as to whether or not one could refuse the bins regardless of the size of one's front garden.
Still, it's all academic now. I have refused them and am forced to take them to the tip myself. Not very green is it?

Thanks Phillip
Obviously I cannot disagree with my own posting (no. 37), but although it may appear back-tracking, it wasn't meant to imply that just because you don't like them, you can change to the other method, it was hoped that it would be taken that space was the factor to changing.
Sorry if it was ambiguous Phillip.

maybe they heard that alan won a fortune on the dover football club lottery and decided that his bags were full of begging letters that should have been in the recycling box.

But I do think thy work hard, just wish they would pick up any rubbish that drops to the ground when they are loading, but it is all about times to get around.

A separate sweeper is supposed to go round afterwards, sweeping up the rubbish that is left behind.
