Another case of probable failure to pay rent.
I openly admit to not having eaten there as I found their pricing a little on the high side to say the least

Meanwhile in Deal.
Jenkins Fishmongers rumoured to be taking over Rooks and including a fish restaurant.
Original Factory Shop to move to M&Co.
Planning permission sought to turn Original Factory Shop in to 17 apartments and FIVE retail outlets.
Planning permission sought to turn old Royal Cinema (King Street) in to 16 apartments and THREE retail outlets.
The place is buzzing. Almost zero 'investment' and bright ideas from both Town and District Council.
What's not to like?

Took a visit to Deal on Saturday and was amazed at how good the market looked and very busy. Playing devils advocate but imagine how good the place could be with a little investment, having said that if DDC were involved it would probably turn out to be a disaster considering how much money they have wasted in Dover.

We go to Deal each week like it and a fish shop where Rooks was ,would be great, but do not keep on saying Dover is not a place to shop or vist Dover is on the way up and the sea front is one of best in the UK and I have been here from the year 1942 so I think I should know.

Try engaging your brain & question why there is a difference.
What does Deal have that Dover doesn't & visa versa?
What are the histories of the two towns?
What happened to each historically to make them different?
What is happening today to make them different?

The two towns have very similar history. Deal was once a bigger port than Dover and both have strong military and mining heritage.
The difference over the last couple of decades is that Deal has had very little investment or interest from local government allowing it to keep its quaintness and has had to rely on its community who rally around its causes. Their strong community hasn't gone unnoticed to rich folk who have invested. Good example is the Rose pub.
What you have had in Dover is DDC thinking they know best and have invested in so many white elephants that they have destroyed the community. White Cliffs Experience, St James, Weird Market Square Rings, Big Screen, Weird Wooden Plant boxes, Fast Track bus, I could go on all day.
It's like DDC are trying to build a new city without the required population. Dover once had a fantastic high street and community. What DDC should have done is tidied up all the dilapidated bits and invested in what we already had but sadly they have gone too far in the wrong direction. The saddest part is these people making these awful decisions in DDC don't even live in Dover and probably have no idea about its proud history.

On the corner opposite the Duchess pub there is now a funeral "shop" called Evergreen.

Interestingly model on the funeral shop. Presumably a few words in comfortable airline seats in the middle of shopping then stiff whizzed away to Barham for quick burn as and when?
Being of 'that age' I've spoken to a number of people who would be all in favour.
Sod that personally but there you go.

If they open a cafe in there as well it might be a handy place to go for a mourning coffee.
