'Hoops Dover will be within 350 yards of London Road between Beaconsfield Road and Cherry Tree Avenue.
That stretch has four pizza shops, four Chinese takeaways, one tandoori restaurant, one fish and chip shop, a bakery, and a kebab shop'.

It really does make you wonder if these outlets can make a living .
Although quite a few of those on London road have survived

Frankly I would rather see empty shops than all these dreadful fast food places. No wonder our nation is so unhealthy and obese. As a regular user of the Leisure Centre I’m appalled by the young people who are storing up health problems in later life because of their size. Knee and hip replacements because of the excess weight on joints. I’ve been overweight but have addressed the problem and now feel so much fitter.
I know I’ll be shouted down but unhealthy eating habits cannot continue. We need to look at how the Japanese deal with the problem- all employers have to provide daily exercise classes for their workers.
I await the outcry against my post……..

Absolute madness - Folkestone have actually used Town Planners and Traffic Engineers to design a town centre which is is welcoming and pleasant to navigate.
Not for them a squirty hoopy thing surrounded by alkies, a latter day milk float with a number of seats driving the wrong way down Pencester and an underpass to the sea smelling of urine and failure and filled with diesel fumes.
Suprised that Folkestone was found to be the best place to live in the South East? Not really!

Good for them! What is the definition of 'levelling-up' anyway?

The term 'to level-up', according to the WGS Dictionary of Historical and Contemporary Cant, means:
'to present large-scale, fully taxpayer- (or magic money tree-) funded, hyper-real, utopian PR exercises designed to lead the gullible into believing that the reality they live in isn't the crumbling liberal dystopia they think it is, and to provide "enhancement opportunities" for the various politicians, councillors, lobbyists, designers, building contractors, accountants, marketing executives and special interest groups involved'.
Admittedly, this is from the 2023 edition, so some things may have changed.

Dover does not have that kind of cash, but I do not think Dover looks that bad ,yes room for improvements but there will always be that.I still think ,THAT MOST of the Dover public are good folk and very helpfull to us older ones opening doors picking up shopping bags etc so Dover is OK.

Meh!
The Dover Fastrack project will be funded by:
£22.9 million grant from Homes England (awarded to Dover District Council through the Housing Infrastructure Fund designed to help stimulate new housing growth in Whitfield and at the former Connaught Barracks site)
£1.42 million from Dover District Council
£9.5 million from the Department for Transport's Zero Emission Bus Regional Areas (ZEBRA) scheme (secured by KCC, the funding is for electric buses and the required charging infrastructure for the existing Fastrack Kent Thameside services and the proposed Dover Fastrack service).

I know this is a dreadful thing to say but It will give me immense satisfaction if Dover Priory station is unable to operate the high speed link because it will render this ridiculous road pointless. No fast trains, no point in the bus link.
We keep being told it will allow residents from Whitfield to shop in Dover…….has anyone really looked at Dover town shops recently?

Woman gets OBE for being reasonably sucessful a long time ago and conning people into thinking she knew something about retail and town planning by proclaiming the bleeding obvious before going firstly bust and then mad, ending up giving gave Ted talks on what she calls “the kindness economy”.

Strange that it's coming out now that only 10% of levelling up funding has Been spent
It appears it costs councils £30.009 to apply

Elementary, VM; an open door more easily allows the person picking up your shopping bag to run off with your munchies.
