What is the shop going to be at the back of the old Methodist church in Beconsfield which was next door to the ladies hairdressers. I see that workmen have taken the front of the shop off,I thought that the old church was going to be pulled down is it part of that ?

Don't know anything about the shop but last I heard was that the church was coming down to make way for flats/ converted to flats and the church hall was being used for services and other church activities.

Those two shops are part of the Beacon Christian centre; being renovated to,provide facilities for the community activities that the Church are involved with. Believe there will be a link through to the church hall hall that is being used for all their activities at the moment.
Yes, there is a planning application to demolish the old church (not in use) and sell the site with permission for flats.all the work will improve the appearance of that area.

Not with flats, and pulling down any church is very sad and does not improve any area.

Falling church attendances mean that it is inevitable that many will be sold off for redevelopment, the church in question is not particularly attractive so I would much prefer to see ones like the burned down United Reformed eventually rebuilt with its remaining original features.

Yes it would be nice to see that one one again still no need to pull the other one down they could do the same with that one and keep the outside the same.

Never ending change at the Charlton Centre despite the best efforts of management there.
They have had late night openings, food fayres and Christmas events.

It lost out from when Sainsbury's left, as when they were there I remember shops being on the second floor and always passing business as people went from car park to Sainsbury's. But in todays retail it is an uphill struggle and a shame no large store to draw passing trade in where it is still vacant where Sainsbury's was.

That is correct Andy, flats are going in upstairs I know there were a lot of them in the original plans but do not know how many got final approval from Planning.

"13/00070 | Part change of use and conversion of first floor to 10 one bedroom flats, three two bedroom flats and one three bedroom flat and associated external alterations"
I have mixed feelings about it.

Trouble is that no traders are interested in taking shops on the upper level anymore so what do you do?Someones invested a lot of money in the centre and of course whats to see some sort of return on their money so its probably the only option left to them.I suppose its better than just leaving them empty.

Personally I would have the whole site knocked and replaced with housing, But I know that won't happen.

Karlos sir you are right said this before town centres need to be small, just like the days of cowboys when they were going out into the wild west they would put their wagons in a small all round,
close to each other that way it was easy to protect. and towns are the same .they need to draw close with each other so the public can use them without walking a long way to get to one shop.
