To move this on, The tories did move spending millions on the WCE I opposed this, and said at the time a static display once seen once is unlikely to be wanted to be seen gain.
so 20 odd million thrown at it and like they were told(but had the majority vote) it failed

FWIW I spent over an hour yesterday with DDC officers looking at long term plans for Dover which are based around connectivity between seafront, town centre, tourist attractions and transport.
I shudder to think how much money has been pumped into Dover over the years. White Cliffs Experience, Big Screen, Jubilee Way, A20 improvements, De Bradelei Wharf and now we have the Western Docks Revival, DTIZ not to mention numerous grants like Dover Big Local. That little lot has got to be at least 150million!
In comparison Deal has probably had about 15million over the same timespan.
Proving money doesn't always buy success.

Jan I did speak up there were six of us who voted against.Captain and Keith will concur always vocal.I was very vocal about the big screen and it cost me my place on the cabinet.Out of fifty six. Councillors usually only ten would speak.

sue,kieth,i rather liked wce went around it a few times.. along with the dover goal, sadly both closed due to the lack of investment.
in comparison to wce,chatam dock yard has a slmular thing,its called talking walls.story of a 12 year old starting out as an apprentice chippy,ends up helping to build hms victory.

I Think Sue hits on another big point.
of 45 cllrs maybe 10 would be vocal
It did often make me feel why were the other 35 there?
Now they could argue they were superb ward workers ,but looking at election results even that probably wasn't the case.
Sometimes it is just about having the title Cllr before your name

Poundland will have to consider a name change in view of their current prices. They have had a few items at £.2 for some time but now they sell such things as bird food for £.6 backpacks for £.8 and perfume for a tenner. They will need to employ a security guard again as so much stuff is close to the entrance.

Went past Store 21 earlier and the windows were covered in banners proclaiming that everything was half price, the doors were open showing much less stock than normal. They announced that the shop was closing a year or so back then changed their mind.

Like a plague of locusts in Store 21 this morning, stuff normally retailing at £.20 going for £.3 - not much left to sell.
Meanwhile on the London Road.

Whoever is taking over this currently empty unit has applied for a licence to sell alcohol between 0800 hours and 2200 hours, sounds like it will be a convenience shop. Incidentally the former vape shop across the road from the Town Hall has a notice in its window proclaiming it will be opening soon as Cooper's fruits.

Store 21 still trading today despite having hardly any stock left and the Hadlow College unit next to M & S was having its signs dismantled so it looks like someone else will be moving in.

Been past a few times this summer during the middle of the day and most times there is nobody sat outside. Last year, when it was the "Port of Call", on a nice day it was difficult to find an empty table.

Not exactly shops but a planning application for change of use into housing for what I think were Bradley's Solicitors old offices.
Conversion into 4no. dwellinghouses
to include 2no new staircases from
basement to groud flr; replacement
staircase from ground to 1st flr;
insertion of partitions; blocking of
existing openings; 3no balconies to
rear elevation with French doors;
demolition of existing single storey
rear extensions.
